Just came back from playing with my new toy. Its an OBD-II Scanner that will work on a Palm and a Laptop. This one has 4 different interfaces so it will work with all 95-96 and later OBD-II cars and light trucks. (No I haven't tried a 2k2 Max yet but I will)

I just wanted to point out that our temp gauges are not designed to show anything but a MAJOR change in temp. Do not rely on it for accurate readings. I watched it all the way from cold up to 205 deg F and it appears to stay the same from about 175-204. Not much comfort in that accuracy. My gauge typically stays just below 1/2 all the time, but I always thought that was because the engine stayed at the same temp. NOT

Here are two of the pics with the gauge and my scanner which read the temperature from the Maxima computer thought the OBD-II Port.

I have a Palm V so I was going to get the setup and use it on my 95.....

 

I think the temp gage is that way on purpose. If it were built more accurately then the needle would be swinging all over the place, and alot of people would be thinking that something's wrong with the car.

When the gage does actually start to move up, what temp does it show then? From what I see in the FSM, the needle should start moving up at around 212 degrees.

I tried the pocket logger, my Son has one but it only works on Japanese cars, this one works on all cars and trucks plus you can use the laptop.

Pretty much the same price too.

Current Palm software does not log but the PC software does and the Palm logging software will be released soon.

This one is called OBDScan.

 

I think you are correct on this. Although I would prefer to see oil pressure and coolant temp in a digital format. I have coolant temp on my bike in digital and like it MUCH more. At least I know how hot the air is that is burning my leg at stop lights!

and you said you can use it with a palm. i have never owned nor used a palm thingy do you just load it up and use a connector for the obdII interface plug???

 

You have to buy the package to get the software. Software is no good without it. You need an OBD-II cable, the interface and a serial cable to hook to either a PC or Palm. The interface is the expensive part. I bought a Palm M105 on Ebay for $40, fun toy.

I was going to get the Pocket Logger but it doesn't work with the 2k2 Maxima's and this one is supposed to although I can't confirm that yet.

What windows version can you run on this program when installed in a laptap computer?

There was a previous thread about the scanner, the possibility of adjusting timing and other various things with it. Is this possible, or are the adjustments temporary?

You can use any version of windows from 9x to XP. You can download a demo for the Palm.

I am planning on doing a review of the product and posting it soon. Just playing with it at present. It will show live data or real time chart, plus remove error codes etc etc.

It shows the following OBD data:
a. Calculated Load
b. Coolant Temp
c. Short and Long term fuel trim
d. Fuel Pressure
e. Intake Manifold Pressure
f. RPM
g. Vehicle speed
h. Ignition timing
j. Intake Air Temp
k. Air Flow
l. Throttle Position
m. Oxygen Sensor Voltage

Plus a bunch of other diagnostic readings.


MadMax you cannot change anything with OBDScan just view it. I am not aware of any scanner that can do that other than the Nissan shop hookup.
