Who said mods hurt gas mileage?

I guess if you never get on it, then the cars runs just as good mileage wise, mods just make you floor it all the time. Just got back from the beach today from spring break, 7.5 hours and 490 miles later I pulled into my driveway and my gas light was just coming on. Not bad for a 7 year old car with all the bolt-ons. That is averaging almost 30 mpg for the entire trip, including sitting at red lights, stop signs, etc...

I remember someone mentioning that popchargers increase gas mileage. Not totally sure... can anyone confirm?

I figure they actually help gas mileage when you actually drive like everyone else on the road. But me and my heavy foot Actually with part city party highway I get about 360-380 a tank. Guess thats not too bad.

Yes, intakes increase gas mileage IF your driving habits stay the same before the install and after...

Nice! If I'm cool with the pedal, I can make it from Boston to Brooklyn(about 220 miles) on just over a 1/4 tank (use to be close to a 1/2 tank) and that's just with a Hybrid intake.

strictly my uninformed view (feel free to correct me).
intake allows better mileage assuming habits stay the same because the engine breaths easier..almost like its expending less energy to get the air in. also you have to give it less "gas" to get the same power so typically the revs stay lower, improving effiency.
all bolt ons have the same effect. FI is slightly different..haha

any of the bolt on's such as intake, y-pipe and catback increase your fuel efficiency if you drive the same way you drove before you slapped on the mods

had headers/cat-back + intake on my old car and mileage went up by about 4 or 5 mpg. long as you dont drive with a lead foot, then ya they increase mpg.

It seems like the autos are the champs when it comes to highway cruising assuming they're running in a relatively flat region. I usually get 26-27mpg in ~100% highway driving. They're lower cruise rpm seems to help a lot. I'm at 3000rpms at 75mph.

Modifications that uncork the intake and exhaust will definately improve gas mileage assuming two thing:

1) The ECU can adjust the air/fuel ratios to compensate for less restriction (the VQ can do this)

2) You keep your foot out of the gas

I have noticed that the MEVI has dropped my MPG by 1-2mpg. Why? Because I find myself cruising around town in 3rd at 3000-3500rpm doing the old "point and shoot". I sometimes forget I'm in 3rd and notice I'm doing 50mph in 3rd. I also find myself going WOT on just about any entrance ramp so I can hear the MEVI changeover. The engine is so much smoother with the MEVI.

Yesterday I got 22mpg, in 90% city driving, with a lead foot.

holy crap man

I remember i made the trip from Brooklyn to Boston in my old max, More than 1/2 tank there, close t 3/4ths actually.

Most I evr got was 370 miles on about 14 gallons.. comes up to like 26.5 mpg. This is mostly highway.. going like 65.

around NYC, I get 17-18 mpg.

My car amazes me also and that's one reason why I'm not getting rid of it.

this past summer, one of my roomates needed a ride to pawtucket (about 40 miles each way), so before we left, i filled up at a gas station right off the highway (less than 2 miles from my house), drove up and back pretty aggressively(averaged between 70 and 100mph depending on how congested the road was and flow of traffic), filled up again at the same station, came out to 32mpg. now with MBTE(or whatever that oxygenated additive is) i get 19mpg combined, where i used to get 22(being cold, it probably doesnt help that the car is in warmup mode for alot longer). i cant wait for the summer.

I can. Ever since my home made intake went on I've been driving hard as hell and get about 20 miles to a tank mare than driving like a grandma...

Just out of curiousity because I'm planning on getting the MEVI, how noticable (sound-wise) between non VI and VI max on the switchover? is it loud and What do it sound like anyways?

I get about 23mpg in the city, with a lead foot. Since I got a catback I upshift a LOT more to slow the car down
