Who said mods hurt gas mileage?
I guess if you never get on it, then the cars runs just as good mileage wise, mods just make you floor it all the time. Just got back from the beach today from spring break, 7.5 hours and 490 miles later I pulled into my driveway and my gas light was just coming on. Not bad for a 7 year old car with all the bolt-ons. That is averaging almost 30 mpg for the entire trip, including sitting at red lights, stop signs, etc...

Actually with part city party highway I get about 360-380 a tank. Guess thats not too bad.

strictly my uninformed view (feel free to correct me).
intake allows better mileage assuming habits stay the same because the engine breaths easier..almost like its expending less energy to get the air in. also you have to give it less "gas" to get the same power so typically the revs stay lower, improving effiency.
all bolt ons have the same effect. FI is slightly different..haha

It seems like the autos are the champs when it comes to highway cruising assuming they're running in a relatively flat region. I usually get 26-27mpg in ~100% highway driving. They're lower cruise rpm seems to help a lot. I'm at 3000rpms at 75mph.
Modifications that uncork the intake and exhaust will definately improve gas mileage assuming two thing:
1) The ECU can adjust the air/fuel ratios to compensate for less restriction (the VQ can do this)
2) You keep your foot out of the gas
I have noticed that the MEVI has dropped my MPG by 1-2mpg. Why? Because I find myself cruising around town in 3rd at 3000-3500rpm doing the old "point and shoot". I sometimes forget I'm in 3rd and notice I'm doing 50mph in 3rd. I also find myself going WOT on just about any entrance ramp so I can hear the MEVI changeover. The engine is so much smoother with the MEVI.
Yesterday I got 22mpg, in 90% city driving, with a lead foot.

holy crap man

I remember i made the trip from Brooklyn to Boston in my old max, More than 1/2 tank there, close t 3/4ths actually.
Most I evr got was 370 miles on about 14 gallons.. comes up to like 26.5 mpg. This is mostly highway.. going like 65.
around NYC, I get 17-18 mpg.
