What does a $2000 Muffler look like?

I managed to acquire a new muffler yesterday. Vibrant Performance http://www.vibrantperformance.com/ sell all sorts of performance equipment. The majority of it is for Honda's but they also sell mufflers, intake filters, strut bars etc.

The muffler I ordered was from their lower end SS line. When my Son ordered it for me, they took pity on a poor old drag racer and asked if I would accept this one instead.

Its a $2k Prototype of the model they are now making and they thought it would be better than the standard line for what I wanted to use it for.

They normally sell in the $100-$200 range. I still had to pay for it but managed to get it for a little less than $2k.

It is nice and hope to get it installed in the next week or so along with a Budget Mandrel Bent T-304 SS Y-Pipe, Test Pipe and a SS Mandrel Bent 2 1/2" B Pipe (sans resonator).

It only cost 2k because its a PROTOTYPE. Thats part of the cost of R&D for a new product.

I have trouble understanding this post. the muffler is a prototype? or the muffler's name is called Prototype? cuz a $2000 non-prototype muffler is really expensive for someone like me.

Waiiiiiiiiiiiiiit a minute here. Why in the world would you pay 2000 dollars for a MUFFLER?? With all do respect, I just cannot see the justification in that. Who cares if it's a prototype, it's just a muffler, and a pretty average looking one at that. $2000 for a few HP? I just don't get it Jime.

For 2 grand you could custom form a new tunnel under the car, and fabricate TRUE dual exhausts complete with longtube headers all the way back. And even then, why?

I didn't pay that for it. Thats what it cost Vibrant Performance to have it built as a prototype. I paid their standard price.

Its red and no options.

And again, I gotta ask ya why you payed almost $2000 for a muffler? How about a MEVI and Cams? Or true dual exhaust? Or MEVI/JWT? Instead you payed $2000 for ~1-3hp. What's the secret sauce here? Does it make your motor sound like a 4.6L Mustang? If so, where do I sign?

Nice looking muffler. But for just under $2000 I would expect it to suck the exhaust out of the car.

I would personally get a cheap flowmasters 40 series muffler and save $1950 and take a hit on the extra .9HP

Since you used "Retardo's " in plural form I have to assume it was directed at me. If not, read no further.

Otherwise, read between the lines dufus. Thats what the was for. I can't include four images to spell out the entire "wink wink, nod nod" phrase.

Yea, internet sarcasm/exaggeration is sometimes hard to pick up

C'mon, we're talking Jime here, not some noob @ modding....who in their right mind would pay $2g's for an exhaust?!

Thank You Shooter. Ya thats half the price of my new 95 I just bought. Going to make a budget racer. I paid $4k US for it and plan on running 12's spending no more than another $2k.

Hope to have it all finished when the racing season starts.

Jime how you gonna do that. Do you know how hard it is going to be to make a 12 sec car for 2k. By the way if you can pull it off, and i'm sure you can. Keep me posted on how you did it, i'm trying to do the same thing with my car. Brian

I spent less than $2000 to put my 2K2 into the 12's it's not hard to do at all. Im confident Jime will pull this off within his alloted budget.

Pull it off? hell were gonna run mid 12's for less than 2k extra, he is exaggerating on the amount..

Now I just gotta figure out how the hell im gonna keep my lardy talon ahead of his "feather weight"... Thats ok though, nothing that a big turbo and fmic can't take care of huh dad?

How to put a VQ30 into the 12's. The NOS way. Im sure Jime will post the NX way as an alternative.

1.)NOS-05040-FI 6 cylinder NOS sportsman fogger. $670 Summitracing

2.)MTT-3019 Mickey Thompson 22x8-15 ET Drag slicks. $147 each Summit(x2 $294) 25" M&H slicks would be a better choice.

3.) Kosei K1 Racing wheel 15x7 $129 each. Tirerack (x2 $258)

4.) Custom 2.5" straight exhaust. Probably about $300ish crush bend.

5.) Exedy stage 1 clutch $225 Group deal here on the org.

My total is $1747 and I left out a replacement or booster pump.

Whats your plan of attack to do this?
