HIDs...why do retrofits appear green?

I was just wondering why the 6000k Hanabi HID kit appears green? I know it looks really green in the day, and in the night, when you first turn them on, they are also green. As it warms up though, it just reaches a nice white. But from a distance, the 6000k have an awesome white/purplish glow when fully warmed up.

Do German car manufacturers (particularly Audi) have a higher temp scale? I've read that the legal limit in the US is in the 4000-5000 range, yet they appear really purple at the certain angle they are approaching. That's the kind of look I'm looking for.

Just wondering....it just makes me hesitant to get any HID if it appears somewhat green, ricey blue, etc. Is green even on the Kevlin Color temp scale?

that brilliant color you see from the Audi's and bmw's come from their projector technology.....and theyre using 6000. I wish i could throw some projectors in my 2k2...

nope leeery! they use regular 4100-4300K Osram Sylvania HIDs, or Philips HIDs to make their color, the finish and shape of the projectors give them the bluish/purplish flickering

you may trrrryyy to imitate this color with 6000K kits but without the flicker and the color you project onto the road will be bluer than the BMWs and AUdis... not a good thing! not to mention OEM HID cutoffs are cool

haha nice response man

I remember your bold statement on your old 3rd gen site...you won't help anyone out with custom projectors etc. but what will it take for you to give me some tips?? I'm up for it...I've done a tiny bit of research but don't know how to start yet.

bah i dont mind anymore
if ya needs help let me know...
though that idea with the HELLA projector is pretty good
even better is yanking out an HID specific projector with a
CLEAR lens like either a bmw audi s2k or whatever
then juss take the lens off the front of your stock headlight
cut a clean hole in the rear, mount the projector
seal it up with some umm... sealant then BAM
instant brighter lights SO PIMP!!!

then again no high beams... do what that other guy did
and mount some fog lights.. or if you're brave buy another
projector, grind off the cutoff and throw that one into the
headlight next to the HID projector and double BAM... J30 style
headlights damn even pimper!!!

ok im really sleep... one tip, dont buy cheap HID kits
they're ugly and light for ***... i have cheap HID kits in
both my foglights and headlights and output is a joke

btw turdz... weird how you know young...
i was messing with her phone a while back and your name came up
SMALL WORLD!!!

There are some projectors from Audis and BMWs on eBay...I'm thinking about getting them. how about Bi-Xenon??

Which kinds are the cheap ones? for sure Hanabis aren't cheap...just too many testimonials that prove they light very well. People are starting to introduce so many HID retrofit kits I'm not sure what to choose anymore. Just check the GD forum and you'll see around 3 I think.

I agree with you on the small world....it's pretty crazy. but who is Young??

yes, I'm really thining about it. There are sets for eBay that don't cost too much....also, I think a projector/reflector setup would look nicer...but would a dual projector setup be easier to setup? I have no idea how I would fabricate a high-quality high-beam reflector. (Alex might though heh)

Philips
Osram
Hella
Panasonic
Catz

those are some of the top notch HID kits

Hanabi is... in the middle, alot of people have had problems with them in the past, Panasonic makes alot of OEM ballasts and bulbs for Acura and Nissan

I duno, I wana work on the custom headlights, but I personally have no frickin clue what I'm doing I just 'know what to do' in ehhhmm philisophical terms

BiXenon I really havent been so fond of, I really like a well aimed pair of High beam reflectors that stay on with the head lights!

anyone wana start this project? anyone have 97+ headlights lying around?
