VB Mod Performance Gains....??

Just bought a Maximum Tuning Stage 2 VB Mod from 96shogunmax and a Hayden 404 Tranny Cooler. Installing both next week...
For all you fellas with VB's, what kind of performance gains can I expect? Does this mod truly shave any tenths of the 1/4 mile or no?
I've only been for a ride in one Maxima with a Stage 2 and it felt great...
I'd like to know how much improvement this mod brings to the table

Thanks for any light you can shed...

-Tony

I think I remember a thread where people using forced induction (specifically nitrous) saw gains of 3 tenths of a second in the quarter mile. I might be thinking of the line pressure mod though.

You'll probably see a .1 to .2 second gain.

when i asked forever ago, one of the moderators told me it wouldn't yield any gains whatsoever. interesting how some say it does and others say it doesn't. i think we need to see some time slips to prove any difference.

I find it hard to believe that it yields no gains at all...

IT does make a difference. Now as much as the drop resistor mod because it shifts at FULL line pressure the VB Mod is somewhere between stock and full.

How much of a difference depends on how fast your car is. If your are running 12's or 13's it could be .2 to .5. If you are running 14 or 15's I would guestimate .1 or .2 max like Deezo said.

it depends on how slow your trans shifts w/ the stock vb.. if it shifts relatively quickly with the stock vb then there wont be much of a difference, but then theres my case:

my auto shifts like a dog; at wot the needle pauses at 6k rpm for like 2-3 seconds before the upshift then takes its dear old time winding down to the lower rpm in the next gear im most likely gonna get the vb done at maximum tuning sometime this summer (or april if the GD goes through) that is, if my craving for a manual doesnt kick in again..

pending on ur liking on what kind of a shift you want , you would need to get it adjusted to your likings.
Stage 2 , Enjoy.

the other downside about the whole thing is sitting in traffic or rolling traffic, you get some nasty shifts.

i have not gone to the track to see what it does, but i can tell u it makes a difference. when you going around at average speeds it just shifts hard, but when you get on the throttle, that slow, (luxery)shift that your auto trans does, is now a hard quick shift. if i had to guess i would say it could take off .1 - .2 but its not all in 1/4 mile times. when your cruising along, and you hit it, the auto down shift is quicker and harder, so you get a harder start.

i think you will like it

Sounds good, I am looking forward to putting this baby in.

I am very, very sick of the slow and drawn out 1-2 shift, really bugs me.

Will- Hard shifts even at low speeds? I didn't know that....but I'm sure I will like it

I've got the stage 2 vb from Jeff as well... 1-2 bangs in no matter what rpm.

Performance gains really are nill, you're not getting horsepower. If anything I may be slower because the fast shift helps me lose traction easier.

Bang for the buck, 5spd conversion.

Those guys who actually did do runs trying to compare saw no difference, and some even saw a loss of time.

Well if you stop playing with those coil overs all day you will have plenty of time. It doesnt take all day.

I've got the Max Tuning Stage 2 VB mod in my VE. I did before and after track runs with about the same weather conditions. My 60' was exactly the same, so I'm assuming the comparison to be very accurate.

Results? I shaved probably one full tenth. That's it.

You don't get this mod to make your car much faster. You get it for the thrill it is to drive. BARKING 2nd gear all over town! Can't mess with it. Plus, it's makes the shift with less slippage. So, it's gotta help in the long run.

I'll be installing it on a Saturday most likely, and she works Saturdays so I'm in the clear. She WILL mind the new shifts, but OH WELL!!!
As far as I know, the tranny cooler lines can be run down the front and around the bottom of the radiator. The directions provided in the FAQ's are good and show how easy the install is.
I'd appreciate pics if you have some.

The VB definitely does help and IMO is worth it.

I never went to the track but just from street racing here and there you'll notice a huge difference. Before my VB on my old VE auto....racing my bros old LS powered Civic hatch he'd always start putting some distance on me between the gears. AFTER the VB I'd slowly put a car on him between the gears.

I never went to the track but you'll definitely notice it. Mostly with frustrating 5spd drivers through the gears when they cant keep up.

Although, now I have a VE 5spd and I wouldnt go back for the world.
