brought car in for free dealer inspection

First of all, I think my car has a few problems. When I'm driving, I would hear this screeching sound that seem to come from the front driver side wheel area. Maybe it's the rotors, pads, dust shield, or something else that's causing the noise. Another thing is whenever I put the car into reverse(auto), I would hear a clunking sound. I thought it's the strut bearings, but I changed that and still have the sound. Someone told me it could be my tranny. Anyway, I didn't tell the dealer guys anything. I want to see if they could come up with anything on their own. Well, after the inspection, they said my car is trouble free. Normally, that would be good news right? However, I know for sure my car has a few problems like I said. I brought the car in at around 9am, they called me to tell me it's done at 10:03am. Seem to be quite a fast inspection don't you think? They suppose to check everything. Can they really "carefully" check everything in that short amount of time? Well, at least it was no charge in the inspection. I still have no idea what's causing the front driver side wheel screeching sound and the clunking sound when I put the car into reverse.

My cousin did the same thing. He got the offer from the mail and we brought it in (he has a 96 SE Max). In about and hour he gaot a call and they said that he had no problems. When in fact the car has been leaking coolent near the passenger firewall. Weird huh. I think that they just pretend to service it when in reality the just drive it into the garage and park it for an hour then call you back to pick it up. What a bunch of BULL$HITERS!!!! Oh well free is free even if nothing is done its free.

I hate to say it but it's par for the course with Nissan service. Stuff like the tranny reverse switch leaking gear oil is something they never find unless you tell them. They never address all the issues on the TSB's unless the customer brings it up. I think you're better off telling them what problems you see because at least you give them someplace to start from. Otherwise they just recommend a service every 3,750 miles. The Maxima can get darn frustrating when you want everything to be perfect.

I'm surprised they said your car was trouble free. Those free inspections are designed to make the dealer $$$, usually they hit people for at least a few hundred in needed repairs.

Re: Re: brought car in for free dealer inspection

A co-worker brought her max in for the free inspection. To my surprise, they said her car checked out OK. I was sure they would suggest some kind of work. I think that perhaps they don't do much of an inspection because it's not worth their time. They probably get better yield from customers who bring in their cars for problems. Don't know... but maybe the free inspection offers are merely to get some public awareness about their services.

Well since my car still have some problems, you guys think I should bring it back and clearly describe what's the problem? I just can't seem to find out what's wrong myself.

Could the clunking after shifting into reverse be caused by a bad engine/tranny mount? I'd check the mounts to see if they are ok... Also, when does the screeching sounds occur? Is it speed dependent?

Last fall after I bought the '89 I took it in for one of those free inspections. They said the CV boots need replacing, but they didn't. They said the cam seals are leaking, and they are.

I new about the swaybar end link, but they missed the shifter bushing.

I was glad it was a free checkup.

Hm...never thought of the engine/tranny mount. I'll be sure to let them know.

As far as the screeching, I would only hear it at low speed, 40mph and lower. The sound disappear as speed increases. Weird. Any ideas?

Check your brakes. If it's only coming from one side and you think your brakes should still have some life in them, you may have a sticking caliper or need to bleed them. My right front wore down twice as fast as my left front because there was air in the lines. I couldn't tell in daily driving...until the screeching started...

You need to drop it off and then spy with a video camera and see if they do anything.

it's not all that free... think of the downtime! u don't have ure car for practically the whole day... it'd be a major inconvenience for people, at least me. I'd be ****ed if the mechanics didn't take the time to check it out.
