Tranny, does this seem odd?
So since my trans has been grinding and it is not the T/O bearing (since I just had it replcaced.) I took it to another trans shop and the guy said he would not rebuild it, and that it would cost too much, cause all my gears are probably shot. He said he would do it, but charge $300 to take it apart and then look at what is wrong with it and gears would be expensive, he said total it would be $1-$2k. He said it is best to get a used trans $500-$1000 and put that in. Anyone ever heard of this?
I thought rebuilding is the easiest to do...

Not really sure what the problem is, but if it needs to be rebuilt, the mechanic is right. It's usually cheaper to drop in a used tranny than rebuild one. The swap is only 5-6 hours of labor + the used tranny. Rebuilding one is going to cost more in parts and take longer as well.
If you can find someone with a 5 speed who took theirs out to put in a LSD 5 speed, that would be your best option for a source. If not, finding one out of a wrecked car shouldn't be to hard.
