Tranny flush after 80k miles

Is it wise/recommended to get your tranny flushed after the car has 80k miles on it?

yea you might want to get it done, espeically if you haven't done it since you bought the car. it will feel a lot smoother.

I got the car at 75k and it's at 82k now. The dealerhsip said they reccomend a flush at every major service (ex. when I got my 75k done)

On the other hand Midas told me that if it has too many miles (>60), the worn out metal bits keep things in motion, and flushing it may screw things up.

If I have the dealer do the flush, would I be able to hold them responsible if my tranny dies out.

Actually I would recommend it. But I would defintely stay away from synthetics now. Just get some Nissan ATF and have it flushed. If you switch to a synthetic you do take a chance of the belts slipping now due to alot more wear. We had a old car we did this on, and the tranny died immediately after it because of the fluid being to slick.

I am not trying to create problems, but this is a misnomer (sp?) Standard ATF is "slicker" per properties than synthetic ATF and stuff like MT90.

But I will agree with the dying tranny part. I , too, have had issues also with changing auto tranny fluid if not changed for long periods. Whether the new stuff cleans out "gunked" up stuff where holes are or what. I cant tell you. But if its gone a long time the chances of problems are more increased, heaven knows why though. I dont repair trannys.

My wifes car is an auto and since I know of this "problem" I have been flushing at 20K. Might be a bit early, but its a Ford and she drives, well....bad. But when we did get it flushed, it shifted 100% better. Glad I did not wait for the 36K maint that is recommended in the manual.

Basically this is going to be a roll of the dice for ya.

Do any of the standard scheduled dealer services include a tranny oil change?

Re: Re: Re: Tranny flush after 80k miles

If you flush it now, you may have an issue, not likely, but possible, that you need to deal with. If you don't do it you are still guaranteed one thing. You WILL have a very expensive repair in the relatively near future.

The tranny is supposed tobe serviced at the 60K maintenance stop, but judging by the number of posts on this site from people, this is rarely done.
