Either Chicago or Kansas City! I live at the birthplace of motorsports Indianapolis, IN. Not to far from me either way!

I guess it really doesn't matter. I'm roughly 8-10 hours drive from either one, so count me in. I was in the same boat as ScreamingVQ in regards to the Minnesota meet, so I'm down!

(wonder how many 3rd Gens will show up....)
Kansas City, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri are one in the same because the only thing separating them is the river. The Kansas City metro area is shared between the northeastern border of Kansas and the northwestern border of Missouri. Approximately 1.7 million people live in the metro area.

It appears there is a definite interest for this thing. KC area, Chicago area? I think KC is more centrally located to more easily include the COL and TX folks, plus per both KC Dave's there would be much support here. So it seems first a city needs to be chosen, then the task of choosing a weekend, etc.

1 vote for the KC area.

KC-1
CHI-0

Tally as you go if you would.

I vote Byron or if it is big enough, RT66 in Chicago. Also, what about the track in Indiana, I believe its US41. I am sure that if we rented out the track, we can count on 15+ Maximas from the Chicagoland area alone. We could also set up some sort of dyno day at APG performance or elsewhere.

Something to remember about August in Kansas City, it's the hottest month of the year. Expect 90+ degree temps and nasty humidity which typically pushes the heat index into the 105-110 degree range. Also, expect your car to be at least .5 seconds slower.

As for this Maxus, I think it needs to stay relatively simple. I think finding a big spot for a Maxima show & shine for an afternoon would be good (Nissan dealer is always good, if not a big park) and maybe if someone had ties to SCCA, we could set up a small "test your handling and braking skills" event in the same area. SCCA did this for the 240 guys when they had a meet hear 2 years ago.

1/4 mile racing is definately something everyone wants to do, but keep in mind most tracks rent out on WEEKDAYS (usually Fridays) from around noon to 4pm. The track WILL NOT BE a weekend thing unless everyone just plans on racing during normal business hours.

Reserving large blocks of rooms is no big deal at most hotels assuming people start reserving them early. Most hotels will also let you set up a registration both and reserved parking as needed.

Dyno runs would be a blast for a select few (maybe 15-20 cars, 2 pulls), but parking at some shops is a bit limited for large groups of 100+ cars showing up.

If we're really going to do this, it looks like August is the best option for most and it gives people adequate time to set up the event. I'd imagine Chicago will probably get the most votes, but who is really going to take hold of the reigns?

The hard truth is, getting younger people to commit to things is nearly impossible especially when money and parents are involved. This problem alone is what's held me back from really doing a Maxus in Kansas City. You need money upfront to reserve a track/dyno shop and most guys aren't willing to prepay.

Even if 100 Maximas showed up, I think you would have accomplished something. You'd probably want to do a track rental, dyno rental for 20 cars on a first come/first serve basis, and possibly find a Nissan dealership or somewhere that would be willing to let us park and setup for a day.

I've given a lot of thought to a Maxus in Kansas City, but most people have a preconcieved notion about Kansas City being located in a corn field.

1) I've got a dyno shop willing to provide an entire Saturday rental with use of their back lot for parking, car show, etc.

2) I've got a huge Nissan dealership willing to donate space and test drives on a weekend,.

3) I've got a completely redone track that will rent out on a Friday from 12-6pm.

4) I've got a NICE 4 star (Double Tree) hotel willing to donate their lot for a car show assuming people stay at the hotel. The Grand Prix guys use this hotel for their annual "GP Gathering".

Getting people to commit and pay upfront (for the track, dyno, hotel reservation) is ALWAYS the BIG pain though. It works good for the Grand Prix guys because most of them are older adults (22-40) where as most of Maxima.org is in the 16-22 range. Things like school, money, and commitment will always be the problem.

Dave
I like the idea of it being in Kansas City. I really dont wanna drive anywhere that far, although a road trip would be fun. So I'm game either way.

Neal and I thought up another idea if we had it at Byron. Blackhawk Farms is only like 40 minutes away from Byron, so if people were interested we could do road racing also....Just an idea

I might be able to make it from Sacramento late this summer- I was planning a cross-country road trip. I love the idea of road racing and Chicago, but KC would be fun as well.

My vote is KC, probably because KCIR is only 780 miles away vs 1220 for Byron :P.

Me and a couple of other guys are trying to get a group of Nissans together for the import car & truck bash in Indianapolis the weekend of August 15-17. If you want to know more about got to www.nissanx.com under the Team N.I.O. discussion.

OK-I can fit about 15 crashers about the house. The fenced back yard could be transformed into a tent village, holding another 40+ hardcores! A check with the local music guys to get a few bands together, peel a few bills to the local exotic community to donate some of their precious time (naked girls on cars make great PICs), perhaps a few tent dances too. In my hood the cops wouldn't come to arrest me until at least 1 AM. Based upon my hospitality, I'm counting on someone to bail me out. All this after a long day or two of ride related stuff. Consider this my 2nd vote for KC!!

I agree. The Chicago supporters better find someone to start NOW if this is going to be more than just discussion.

Personally I vote Kansas just because I know that Dave can pull it all together and get things done right.
