Byron Dragway in Byron, IL can be rented for not very much money. Since Maxus always happens on either coast, we in the middle of the country are screwed.

Byron is about 1hr west of metro Chicago.

http://www.byrondragway.com/

Just guaging interest in this for sometime this summer or fall.

Yeah, that'd be fun, I think sometime around october or early november would be nice, since it cooler out. I'd be more willing to make the drive out then, other than going during the summer.

I agree, but the problem with that is lots of people have school to worry about in the fall, AND the weather is much more unpredictable.

do it at the end of august then, most schools dont start until September. That would give us 4.5 months to plan. just a thought

cmon chase, it being cooler out isn't the real reason. I think it's that you wont get your drivers license until October. Since your 16th B-day isnt until the 13th. i see you little plan. dont worry, you can drive my car, ill just have to be with you

Thats partially the reason hehe, but yea, it'd still be fun to go. Long *** drive though, but I always love road trips .

Im actually gonna try to get a max or i30 around august/sept since I might have the money by then.

I'd be game. Chicago would be a great place. I'd imagine no one from the west coast would come, but I'd imagine you'd get most of the midwest/Texas people plus many people from the south and lower northeast. Even if 100 Maximas showed up, I think you would have accomplished something. You'd probably want to do a track rental, dyno rental for 20 cars on a first come/first serve basis, and possibly find a Nissan dealership or somewhere that would be willing to let us park and setup for a day.

I've given a lot of thought to a Maxus in Kansas City, but most people have a preconcieved notion about Kansas City being located in a corn field.

1) I've got a dyno shop willing to provide an entire Saturday rental with use of their back lot for parking, car show, etc.

2) I've got a huge Nissan dealership willing to donate space and test drives on a weekend,.

3) I've got a completely redone track that will rent out on a Friday from 12-6pm.

4) I've got a NICE 4 star (Double Tree) hotel willing to donate their lot for a car show assuming people stay at the hotel. The Grand Prix guys use this hotel for their annual "GP Gathering".

Getting people to commit and pay upfront (for the track, dyno, hotel reservation) is ALWAYS the BIG pain though. It works good for the Grand Prix guys because most of them are older adults (22-40) where as most of Maxima.org is in the 16-22 range. Things like school, money, and commitment will always be the problem.

we need to make a database of where every member is from. Make the meet closest to the highest concentration of members.

I think that if this is something that we actually want to happen and work, this thread should be made a sticky in the main forum, not regional maxima groups forum

I'm in as long as the date falls on a weekend and its in the Chicagoland area cuz im gonna be talking summer school, and weekend is probably my only time to get out to the track. Unless the date falls anywhere between June 21st to July 13th. Then I could go at any date. People edit your posts so we know where you are coming from, so we could figure out where in the midwest is the best place to setup the track day.

I'm from the Chicago area.

Love the idea too but Byron's in the middle of nowhere. Guess Rockford would work for hotels and meals and stuff. It's 30min north.

If you're talking early Aug keep 7/27 in mind. That's the Rt66 Ultimate Street car challenge weekend. I'd love to see 6+ Maxima's run that this year!

I say we got to KC. It's kinda in the middle for everyone, plus I'd like to be able to make this

We can all crash in Dave's backyard since it was his idea

Being in the KC area, I like that idea. Plus, Dave B. would certainly let all those 16-22's that can't pay crash at his place! Being an old guy, I guess I can buy the beer and stuff. It seems, if done right, this would be worth a 2-4-6-8-10-12 hour drive for most of us. To quote Mr. Blutarski, "LET's DO IT"!

Hell ya, I want to race on that track too BTW, I went to the Byron Dragway website and there's a pic of an old Ford bed-van doing a wheelstand down the track and I swear it looks down hill from the pic

For those that don't know, Mo/Kan IS NOT in Kansas City. It's ~110 miles south of KC and would not be the track we'd use.

Guys,

For all of you out there in East/West Coast...come on, Chicago is only a 13 hour drive from New York (went there with my Max twice, so I know the route), and it's about 2 day drive from San Diego passing Colorado (where you could stay longer there, beautiful state!).

I would definitely be interested. I live in Milwaukee, so KC or Chicago is definitely working out for me.

Now...Dave B, if we could arrange a test drive of your wicked car down the track in addition of the things you say, that would be awesome....

End of August would be perfect. You know, I've been wanting to go to Road America at Elkhart Lake, but so far I haven't been able to (even the Vette Club here in Milwaukee could not get a spot last year).

how about Tulsa? we can take over the drag strip in the evening, and rent out Hallett speedway during the day. (ONLY $2250 for the track... )

http://www.hallettracing.com/

Aug 2-3 and 16-17 are open..

Ummm, otherwise I'm up for a Kansas City event...

if we follow the "have the meet where the highest concentration is", the meets would never leave the NY/NJ/DC area..

Ok, stupid question time.... Are we talking about Kansas City, Kansas or Kansas City, Missouri???

I guess it really doesn't matter. I'm roughly 8-10 hours drive from either one, so count me in. I was in the same boat as ScreamingVQ in regards to the Minnesota meet, so I'm down!

(wonder how many 3rd Gens will show up....)
