How many of you have gone into DEBT modding your Max?

Just curious who all's gone into debt to buy mods for their Max. Credit cards or personal loans that are carrying balances from month to month because of the things you've bought for your max. I'm talking about parts/labor that you've been paying off or will be paying off for more than 3 months here. I work for a credit card issuer so I was just curious.

Stuff that I can get cheap through my sponsor like fog lights, strobes, bulbs, small accessories like that can be paid in cash.

When I see a good deal and don't have the cash, I use credit anticipating that I'll be able to pay it off at least within 2 months (or the next 3 or 4 paychecks).

But, thanks to some of the more expensive mods... I'd say i'm pretty deep in debt, but decided to get a small lower percentage student loan to pay it off.. to avoid the finance charges.

My credit card has since been destroyed, but I have a near 700 FICA rating so it can't be that bad, right?

Cash, checks, money order or paypal... If I do use the Credit Card, it's when buying things online, and it's paid off instantly..

You should also tack on (edit) if they live with their parents but maybe thats a new thread, I could afford a supercharger, turbo, throw them away get a bigger turbo then nitrous, and a bike if I didn't have to pay rent and buy food.

I pay in cash though to answer your question, I have always wondered if some of the people with the nicest cars are also the ones who don't have expenses?

I've been in debt for a while. Right now I have $2000 in debt on my Visa. I still have a 0% APR until May 15. I've been charged a minimum finance charge of $.50/month. Not too bad. My goal is to get out of debt while working this summer.
I've charged my exhaust, intake, tires, and HIDs.
I'm good with managing my money though.

I also pay $340.25/month for car payments!
I just don't have the $$ to go out drinkin and stuff as much as I'd like to.

I still have the card and use it for **** like gas and anything thats gonna rack up over $500 just incase I have to disbute it, but I allways have cash on hand even if I do purchase by CC I pay it off the next time the bill shows up. Just a bit safer in my opinion.

bank checkcards are wonderful. you have to have the cash in your account to use it so you avoid debt, but yet it is "mastercard" so you can use it anywhere, and dispute charges! I agree on the safety of cards for large purchase disputing sake

I never touch my bank account(s ) I have an account which I just throw in extra cash and use that for my car payment and to pay off a larger CC bill. I never see the money I throw into that account becasue the last check of everymonth goes into it because I dont really need it. So the car payments and CC payments dont really bother me because its like the cash was never there to begin with. I do have a Debit card but I dont even know my pin becasue ive never used it. I either pay cash for small items or I just play it safe and charge it. I refuse to ever go into debt, im nowere even close to it and nor will I ever be. Just thinking about being $20-30K under makes me sick, you basically work just to pay bills at that point and get absolutly nowere.

Not in debt yet. Although my max is taking the back seat this year too. Graduation in May, and trying to save up to move to Cali. Anyone know of any job openings for a marketing/finance major in northern cali?
The only thing I'll be doing to my car this year is washing and waxing.

I buy EVERYTHING with a CC except my lunch. However, I pay everything off when the bill comes. I modify as I please since my wife and I don't have car payments. The only thing holding me back from getting a turbo/SC for my Maxima is reliability concerns. I'm not willing to risk my daily reliability. The little headaches here and there of turboing/SCing a car that wasn't made for it is just something I can't stand. I guess that's why I'm considering a new 2004 WRX as my next ride.

Does a $127k mortgage count as debt?

Anyone else get in trouble for buying mods for your max without telling the wife?

I am in the hole big time!

I had $2500 to do the 5 Speed Swap, spent that. Then the trans went out, so I had to borrow $1500 from my boss to pay for it, so now I owe him $1500. I still owe $320 for shipping on a engine I bought. All my cards were maxed out, but I have been paying them down, but it takes forever when your interest is 29.99% Bottom line, I am screwed, no more mods for a while, I am in the hole $5k+

That's a good way to do things. Mods are for fun only--not only are they expensive, but they detract from the resale value of the car (as if the normal depreciation on a Maxima weren't enough). The last thing you would want to do is pay for something like that over time.

Take a house for example, most home improvement projects do not allow the homeowner to sell the house for more (although Long Island is an exception, where housing prices are just a ridiculous joke as is the appreciation over the last 2 years--don't we all wish we owned something there?). The BIG exception is kitchen remodeling, where you can usually get what you put in back and sometimes then some. Point is one spends the money to enjoy, like finished basement or deck. Same with the car mods, they are strictly for enjoyment only.

are you including the car itself for debt? if thats the case, than im about $14,000 in debt, otherwise nothing for the car, but $1000 on Best Buy, $600 on my MC, paid everything else off. Although you all are making it seem like going into debt is a bad thing. debt makes our economy grow. I think Ill always have some sort of debt.
