OK ... finally track times ... disappointing!!!
OK, I finally got to the track today. I think it is the second day of test and tune for the year. So many people have been bugging me about it. It was a last minute kind of deal and I was really not prepared to do it but what the heck! The guy at the tech line gave me grief about my battery relocation again, but still allowed me to run.
I have only tracked it once before and made one pass in my life so the results were kind of disappointing.
60' 2.403s
1/4 mile 14.115 @ 105.55 mph
Two things went wrong:
1. I started at low rpm (didn't want to burn out the clutch and run 18.6 again!) So no launch with boost at the start.
2. When I switch from 1st to second (and I still do this) the rpms drop to 3000 rpm.
Another time I went I got LBTA and got all messed up:
60' 4.2s (Ughh!!)
1/4 16.515 @ 107.04 mph (double ughhh!)
I got all flustered when the red light came on and started backing up (how dumb is that?), then I was supposed to go, my tires just roasted and again 1st to second shift was bad!
If I could hook up and learn to shift the damn thing, it should be in the low 13s, judging by the mph at the end ... am I wrong about this - could be, cos I don't fully understand it all. I need a LOT of practice!
I decided to let one of the PFI guys try the car, he wasn't used to it, but managed to get
run 1:
60' 2.566
1/4 13.945 @ 103.75 mph
(some tire roast and he missed 4th gear)
run 2:
60' 2.349
1/4 13.832 @ 108 mph
Kev and some others know how badly I shift! Certainly, a differential would help and some slicks as well as some lighter wheels, these 17" 2002 Maxima wheels look nice but are heavy!
If you look at it another way, I took 4.5 seconds off my previous ET! But either way, I SUCK!
Most of you will be like !!

Even if you did mess up that bad, 108mph is still up there and I dont think thats anywere near what your car is capable of running. Just keep practicing (obviously) if you atleast get those shifts lightning fast you'll knock quite a bit off that that. A 2.4 60' is quite a bit of spin, as you said slicks are a must with the power you turbo'd guys are pumping out. You should be well into the 12's with the power your pushin, as you just figured out though all the power in the world doesnt mean a thing if you cant get it to hook up.
Good luck, im sure you'll see the 12's no doubth about it.

also your trapping @ 108MPH, I am trapping 104's you should be in the low 13's and 12's once you get the launch down and get the 60's to 2.2? or below you ll be loving it then. Great job in any case taking it to the track. Car is very fast.

I am rarely in the country nowadays. In fact I leave again tomorrow for 2 weeks ... no time to race or install Quaife. Life sucks!
Most people look at the ETs and I did not perform very well but looking at the mph, it wasn't so bad. I was the only Maxima at the track. There were probably 3 Nissans in total, one was a 350Z, the other I didn't see myself but was told a Sentra. 350Z ran 15.7.
It is certainly addictive! I am not sure I want this kind of addiction. I know for sure I will break stuff! There were a number of cars that broke on the track, fortunately, only one spilt oil. Also, the closer you get to 10s, the more you have to spend and it is more exponential than linear. Also, the waiting sucks. It was an hour between runs!
My EGTs were surprising low for the most part at 760C. The day was hot with the sun, the air temp was OK - 78F (warm compared to recent weather).
I have videos of some of the runs ... or rather a friend does. I'll have to convert to mpeg and post them when I get back.
Thanks for the encouragement and not laughing at me! I knew I would not do well, but I guess I folded to peer pressure. Props to turbomax, who has held out for so long! He's a good guy, who doesn't give a crap what people think .. and I know his **** is fast! ... or was before he blew up!
I am getting greedy though ... wonder what a small shot of the ol' laughing gas will do? .. without injector upgrades, it'll just blow the motor! With injectors and all the other stuff? ... hmm!

108mph is pretty impressive and judging from your lack of experience, poor shifting skills, heavy 17s, and slow 60', you're car probably could pull 110-112mph quite easily and probably faster on a cold night. Those 2k+ wheels look amazing on a 4th gen, but damn do they suck out the power. They sucked out a SOLID .4 and 3mph from one the Maximas in the Kansas City group. The problem is their heavy weight and the lack of control once they're spinning. People seem to believe heavy wheels are easier to control off the line which is BS. When you put a heavier object in motion, it takes more energy to slow it down (ie harder to modulate the spin).

The temp was about 78F, absolute pressure was 23.38 dunno if that is high or low! As far as altitude goes, it does affect turbo cars but not quite as much as NA. I have heard that turbo cars at sea-level boost quicker (don't know if this is true or not) No one seems to like racing in CO ... probably cos they can't make the numbers they do at sea-level and that includes turboed cars. ... or it could be that everyone hates CO!
With regard to wet kit, if I ever did one it would be wet. Right now I have a dry nos kit #5124???. Yeah I hear you, big traction problems! What I am more worried about is breaking axles, tranny etc etc.

For you, I guess you are travelling back in time (like someone else mentioned -ve times)! Kevin's Time Machine! Just set the Blitz controller and go! ... don't forget the whales!

Nigel: Why do your RPM's drop to 3000 when you shift from 1-2? Reason I ask is, becuase mine do too sometimes. It's usually a little higher then that, but still. Are we just bad shifters? When I go WOT I try to shift as hard as I can. I hope it's just our n0ob driving and not a mechanical thing.

Now take into consideration the number of rice mods on Kev's car (HUGE > infinity), therefore ( 4x^y * [Magazine time]^2 - [# of rice mods on car]^2 + ln z )is always negative. Now do ya get it? . That's how I got an A in mathematics! Actually, the answer is in the form of a complex number since the sqrt of a negative is complex! Bah too difficult to explain!

f(x) = sqrt( 4x^y * [Magazine time] - [# of rice mods on car] + ln z)
then
f(Inf)= sqrt( 4(Inf)^(Inf) * [Magazine time] - [# of rice mods on car] + ln(Inf))
= sqrt(Inf*[Magazine time] - [Inf] + Inf)
= sqrt(Inf*[Magazine time]
= sqrt(Inf) since "Magazine time" is relatively small
= Inf
So f(Inf) = Inf, so it's neither negative nor complex.
