I want to heat my springs this weekend. Anyone done this?

I asume all you do is get the blow tourch out, start heating and then compressing right?

I have cut front intrax springs. I heard of this but have never done it before. I will tell you that I have cut stock coils they fit and ride like ****. Just giving you heads up invest in some sprints.

I do have Sprint Spings, the only problem is the front sits way lower then the back. The front is the way i want the back, so i only plan on doing the back ones. Hows the ride with cut aftermarket springs? How did you do this?

it is NOT reccomended to heat and compress the springs, mainly because you are sacrificing the strength of the spring itself.

Just cut the rear spring. Like everyone else said. Don't heat the spring. You will compromise the strength of the spring.

Cutting is fairly easy. I used a dremmel but if you're patient enough you can use a hacksaw as well. Just cut a full 360 degrees of spring off. And cut from the top (progressive (dead) springs) which are the springs that sit very close together.

About how low will one coil lower it?

Do i have to smoothen the end since its been cut or do anything to it?

Cutting one dead coil should drop the car exactly the diameter of the coil, in theory.(I think)

Well I cut a rear coil off my Maxspeeds and it lowered my car about 1/2 an inch (basically the width of the coil). I just got my Sprints yesterday and noticed they don't really have any 'dead' coils like Maxspeeds do so I'm not sure how much cutting a coil will affect it though I've heard its about the same... 1/2 inch or so.

As for the ride. I noticed absolutely 0 difference between before and after cut with my Maxspeeds. Maybe Sprints are different but I know my Maxspeeds felt exactly the same or if the ride was more harsh it was so minute that it's not even noticable.

I'll be cutting a coil off my Sprints (rear) this weekend as well as everyone has told/shown me that the rears sit quite a bit higher than the fronts. Problem is, I'm not 100% sure which side of the springs are the top and which are the bottom. Maxspeeds are easy to tell the differnce and Im 95% sure I know with the Sprints but theres no indicators on the springs themselves to let you know what's top and whats bottom. Could someone verify if I have it right according to the picture below?

The rear springs in the picture are standing upright and the front springs are actually upside down in the picture, right?

Also, will the Sprint springs sit loose in the strut if I cut a coil?

Why not buy coil-overs...then you can do whatever you'd like to the ride height.

I hacked my front coils with a large metal cutting machine. all you need to do is cut one rear coil off your sprints and thats it. I was under the impression you was cutting the stock coils. One coil will almost even the car out. Thats the solution to your problem

won't cuttin' a coil make it squeak? and if so , any way you can make it stop?
