how much paint would you need to change a color on a maxima, say from pearl white to say blue..? i gal? and what else.. can a reagualr person just get some good parts from a used maxima and .. can i just stripe the paint down and do the work my self.. is it a diy job? Even if you copound and fix the dings, or lets say just strip the color.. what is the procedure in chaning the color.. can i actually save money in doing my on paint job? or should i just leave it to the experts, or just take it to maacco.. i have very little money to paint the max and fix the dents.also when you change the color of the paint you have to update the wvin info? or the dmv records to show the change in color of the oem maxima paint?

i see the prices of the paint for the max, and 310+dollars for a 32oz tripaint, primer, and clear coat. and get used parts and just paint it myself? wouldnt that be a big savings?

Let a professional refinish your car correctly. Thats not a DIY job. From what you wrote, a few dings, dents plus changing the color of your car, your looking at $2,500 - $3,500 bucks. You have to take the car apart to change the color. Every piece of molding, trim, every light, marker ect comes off the car. Then any ding or dents are repaired. The car gets prepped, sprayed base coast, clear coat - in a spray booth and baked. Your talking a weeks work by a body shop.

Painting a car ain't easy to do your self.

Painting a car is not your typical diy project. To obtain a smooth glossy finish requires special equipment, plus experience. I've painted several cars myself but had the luxury of a garage where we could dismantle the car, recondition, and time was not a factor. Took at least 2-3 months per car. Best to leave the painting to the professionals.

a complete color change is not easy. you have to remember your door jambs, trunk, under the hood etc etc. mine was simple because the car was already white so areas that couldn't be painted under the hood aren't too noticeable. if you've never painted a car before i wouldn't suggest trying this on your own.

BTW blue is one of the most expensive colors you can buy...

i was thinking about spray painting the freaking bumper, i am getting so f-upwith blckbumper with white chipping paint

hehe, yeah, I have this same problem too. What can be done about that, other than touch-up paint???
And will touch up look good, or crap, since the paint is likely faded, and should might look different than the touch-up colour.

Usually you are not supposed to strip the old paint off. You can never really reproduce what a factory paint job would be like...you usually work off of that if it is in good shape etc. Usually 1 quart is enough because that is the main color, and before the obviously primer etc, unless you are doing chromillusion or something then black base etc...

is there a such thing as flex paint?

I believe you can get a "flex agent" added to the paint, so on things like the urethane Stillen lip, it can bend without the paint cracking.

with all the snow slat road crap my lip got all these lil nicks on it !

Gimme $50 and I'll throw some cool racer stripes on it.
