Help! Tranny Problems?

Hey,

My tranny feels like its about to fall apart. I only have 45k miles on my car and it's a 98 5 speed. It all started after I got home from the dragway. I did massive wheel hops everytime I took off and now I have trouble putting the car into gear while driving. Sometimes its fine and sometimes it just locks up! I know its not the clutch cause I just got an ACT couple months ago. Going into third sometimes makes a grinding noise. What could be possible probs? any help please! thanks

The Maxima is a 4 door family sedan with a powerfull engine. It's not a drag car and never will be. Stop the wheel hop and your tranny will last a very long time.

You probably tore up the internals of your 5 speed pretty good. Not to mention the beating your drive shafts & control arms took as well. Try different tires to stop the wheel hop, lower tire pressure, stiffer engine mounts, control arm bushings, springs and struts, ect..

Next time your car does wheel hops at the track, go home and try to figure out how to stop it from happening. Don't keep dragging it like that, it gets expensive!

The wheelhop is typically induced by releasing the clutch too quickly. The drivetrain shock causes the tires to hop because the motor is rocking in the mounts. Next time you get hop, let off the gas ASAP.

As for your tranny, so many things can happen under prolonged hop. From what you're describing, it sounds like you might have broken some teeth off the gears. Your shift fork may be slightly bent too.
