Regretful Mods?

Have you ever bought a mod and regretted it?

So much that you took it back off

or you had to stand back for a few weeks or days or months and let it "grow" on you,

you did not like it immediately when you did it but after a while you liked it more and more....discuss

Re: Re: Regretful Mods?

I can tell you what mod that I felt the complete opposite about... Maximum Tuning Valve Body Mod. I immediately LOVED it and it still puts a smile on my face after 6 months.

But, the only mod that I have that I somewhat had to let it 'grow' on me... was the Arospeed Straight Thru muffler along with my Ypipe and Testpipe. When I removed my stock muffler, my car got FREAKING LOUD!!! I set off car alarms everytime I slightly apply the throttle in a parking lot. And in Las Vegas parking garages.... WOW, I can set off car alarms that are 2 floors above me. LMAO!

So, making my car loud is what I had to let grow on me. Now, I just don't care. For that extra ONE tenth of a second in the 1/4 mile, it's worth it to me.

But, all my other mods, I have not come CLOSE to regretting. See my website for details.

My MagnaFlow muffler. At idle I love the way it sounds, but after a long drive (say 30-45+ min) I sometimes want to take a sledge hammer to it. Sometimes I love the way it sounds at other times I hate it, really depends on which mood im in. One thing I got that I never regreted was the bodykit, kinda makes the car stand out in a crowd.

Of course, I have no mods now, not even a car

Is this thread a yearly thing that you're going to do?

To answer your question (again): Dash kit.

While we're on the subject of the last thread, we need some explanations.

My regret: clear universal side-markers. Anyways, I didn't get to chose which ones got installed, so I'm planning to replace them with ones that are higher quality.

Altezzas are nastazias

when you wanted them you should have got some cardboard and cut 3 round horizontal holes per tail. and while your at it
get some bondo and make a new skyline bodykit with the cardboard

(I actually saw a funny picture of a car mocking the whole mod scene with cardboards)

Brushed aluminum dash kit. I like how it looks but still can't believe I spent $200 on it. I've still got it though.

Also my slotted rotors and such, I wish I had just taken the plunge earlier and gotten the 300ZX upgrade, which I am currently in the process of doing.

Well some people do not like the **** they have, what am I suppost to do about it. Y-pipes are all basically the same thing but diff materials and slightly diff welds which dont seem to make a significant differance in power from one pipe to another. I dont know if he doesnt like it because its a budget pipe or he just doesnt like the y-pipes period. Anything else?

i dont like the fact that i cant beat my friends stock 99 max, with my Y and intake. And its not my driving, we swapped cars last night and raced. I do have sh!tty tires, which allows him to get the jump, but i cannot pull AT ALL, we are dead even after the launch. Gonna try a Full Warpspeed setup shortly with a highflow cat...

Stillen B-pipe. It hangs low and it sounds like azzz. I had a resonator put in it and it sounded fine until my P.O.S. random tech cat took a dump. One side of the catalyst came loose. Installed test pipe now exhaust sounds like azz again. It's a dead heat between the two, cat is off and looking for a reasonably priced cat/back.

White gauge face overlays..... had to remove needles and they are still off.

Stillen catback exhaust (with Y pipe). Too loud for my tastes with a Y. Got an Apexi WS and sold the Stillen.

Tint..... only because of a ticket and an order to remove

Otherwise, the tint was bangning. Local cops - don't like modified cars but if you have a POS pickup with straight through exhaust you get props at the redneck round ups!

I had the brushed aluminium with my tan interior. Didn't go well together. It was too bling bling for my car.

2 things:

Eibachs -- I lived with them for a while but eventually got tired of the stiffness and replaced them w/H&R's

Chrome Altezzas -- although they looked alright at first eventually I got tired of them...too ricey. I replaced them with red/clears and later Gen-2 Carbon Fiber Altezzas (my fave by far!)

Eric

well kinda an update on this...I let my friend drive my car (he owns a WRX, which i got to drive, man, i LOVED it ), well he launched better in my car than anybody ever has. We raced (with me in the car) against my friends '02 GLE and we stayed with him the whole way. We actually were dead even off the line till we shifted into 2nd, which is where we saw the 3.5L's top end shine, after that initial 1st gear pull, we were dead even the whole way, we ended up right at his rear bumper...Yeah, then the cops came

my indiglo gauges...needles still stick and i broke the black piece around it in two places.

my muffler looks good still and has an ok sound, not too too loud but enough where i wish i was just quiet.

i'm still 50/50 about my altezzas. i think they look ok on white maxes, but would still take red/clears if i could get my hands on some.

anddd i think i'm going back to stock hacked airbox. my lil hai doesn't do it for me anymore.

I hate my reverse-indiglo guages. They attract too much attention when I have to drive in the ghetto. (If you live in DC, 89% of the pretty girls live in the ghetto) I'm 50/50 on my HIDs. I enjoy the light, but I'm sick of babying them all the time so that I don't burn up the ballasts. I used to hate my muffler because it was too loud. Now its not that bad. Other than that, I'm happy with my mods.

RVM UDP. Put it on and had a hard time starting the car. Ended up having to tow my car home twice. Took it off and heard others had problems with oil leaks too. Hope I don't get burned with the Definitive UDP.

The sunroof wind deflector: Still not sure I can live with the looks and the way it changed the lines on the car. But, at least my stereo sounds better and I don't have to crank it when the sunroof is open.
