Just drove Nissan Frontier supercharged
#1
Anybody else tried one of the new 2001 supercharged frontier pickup 4 door mini humvee clones? I just got back from Superior Nissan after having driven the 4x4 non supercharged and the supercharged 4x2 pickup. They say 210hp for the supercharged version vs 170 for the non supercharged. I know I could blow it away with my Jeep Grand Cherokee but it was pretty peppy especially with the extra 40HP. I need a pickup, this with it's 4-1/2' bed barely meets the criteria.
Just wondering about how reliable or risky it might be since it is a first year model (they said).
I am going to look at it on the rack, might be a Y pipe candidate.

I have to back when it is daylight out, it was getting dark and I want to make sure I can handle that "ugly *** front" (my wife's description of the front of the truck) in the daylight.
I figure if I tint the windows and get rid of the red off road decal it will look pretty sharp. It has to pass the boat test first though, it has to be able to pull my boat up the launching ramp. They told me I could try it out overnight sooooooo.
My only concern is that the supercharged version does not have the tow capacity of the non supercharged versions,3500# trailer vs 5000#. It seems the automatic non supercharged has more capacity than the manual 5000# vs 3500# and can handle 500# of tongue weight vs 350#.

yea....the s/c truck really isn't that fast...its more marketing. That being said.....if the vg33 was weak.....this is 40hp better. A ranger v6 with a 5sp auto is a tab bit quicker BUT the nissan truck is BIG on handling. It won top scores in a mag test review(can't remember) but it didn't win overall. I like it....in the 4 door version. Trucks can be cool....i have a weakness.

Handling and trucks don't necessarily complement each other. While it is true that the Frontier isn't a bad handling truck, it doesn't handle like a sedan. I mean, I bet a V6 Camry would whip the S/C Frontier in the slalom. So, for people thinking they're getting the best of both worlds with a truck (power and handling), well...that's simply not going to happen.
