check engine code got me stumped

Check engine light came on today. When I went to check the code it came out to be 0505 which is the code for "no failure detected"

there were no other codes. Whats up with the CEL coming on to tell me that my car is fine.

Reset the ECU with the screw. I think you just cycle it twice to clear all the codes; right, wait, left, right, wait, left and away you go.

Yeah I did that. I'm just wondering why the CEL came on in the first place.

You probably cleared the codes by accident before you got the ECU to spit them out.

i think thats what might have happened too. if the CEL came on, SOMETHING TRIGGERED IT. Reset the ECU again, and wait til the CEL lights up again, and check the codes again. After the reset, if something is indeed wrong, CEL will light up in 30 miles or less. AND, its possible that you will get a code not defined by the online code decoder. In that case, you have to take it to autozone or go to a dealer (dealer chages 70 bucks to read the codes. might as well buy a scanner for 120 bucks) and read the ECU again.

When my CEL lit up, I checked it myself and i got 2 long beeps and 15 short beeps. I couldnt find the meaning of that anywhere, so I took it to autozone and they read it and it had something to do with my EVAP solenoid. but I still havent fixed it yet!

I'd clear the codes, if they light up again have it checked out... its not unsual for a car to spit some retarded code like the 02s and have it never come up again

dont waste your money Al!!

Its free. Its one of their marketing gimmicks and I think they've been doing that for couple years now.
