Need Info On New Alternator

i have a 97 max and the alternator just went. for those who have changed your alternator, is it better to get a new one from the dealer or does some-one have one stronger that bolts on just like oem?

my friend just told me to go to pep-boys, they have alternators that have lifetime warr.

i have already checked and my car is not on recall.

at this time all the stores are closed around here, can some-one tell me what i will be look at to spend to fix this problem.

thanks, Freddie

Avoid the AUTOZONE. They may have a bullet proof warrantee, but you may be exercising it often. ALT breaks, remove from car, bring it back, get replacement, etc. And the ALT removal process ain't like changing your oil, either.

Best thing, get one from Nissan. I bought a re-manufactured Nissan OEM ALT from Coutesy. Word is that even though they say they are not re-manufactured, they usually are. Mine definitely was. They cost more, but once you put 'em in, fuhgetaboutit.

Interesting thing I found otu here on the org. I thought there were only 2 OEM ALTs available for the Max, a 100 and 110 AMP unit. Turns out there's even a 125 AMP unit. Try to get that one.

Call your local dealer with your vin# and see if your car is under the recall. I have a 97 se, and my alt. went a couple years ago I went to autozone and got one...Once I found out about the recall they replaced it with a new nissan alt. and also gave me my money back....Check on that first...If you have already changed it go get your money back...Write back and let us know what happened....

Listen to these guys Freddie. I bought an alternator from a local auto parts store not even a year ago and it sounds like its falling apart already. I though something gave way in my engine block. As crazy as it sounds, get the OEM alternator.

freddie i was told that stinger makes a pretty powerful alternator with a decent warranty, but i've heard it's pricey. i ended up slapping a second battery in and didn't have any other issues.

good luck.
