Here we go, another Max (long)...
#1
Hey, a couple of weeks ago my girlfriend totalled her 99 Protege ES. (some guy ran a red light) Well, i took her to the car show in the meadowlands here in jersey, well she fell in love with the 2001 Maxima. Yesterday, she went to price one out at nissan, fully loaded Maxima SE with every option for $340/mo. for 36 months with $3500 down for a 15,000 mile lease. Is that good? I still think it's a lot.
Anyway, the reason I say another maxima is:
my father -> 87 Maxima GXE with 54,000 miles (bought it new)
me -> 91 Maxima SE with 120,000 miles (bought it used in 96)
my sister -> 95 Maxima SE with 75,000 miles (used)
now if my girl gets the 2001 Maxima SE, then it would seem that i am surrounded by the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th generation maximas, all i need now is the first gen
also, i also have a two friends, one who bought a 96 maxima SE and one who's mom bought the 95 Maxima GXE. Do you think i should become a salesman for nissan?
anyway, could somebody let me know about the deal on the 2001 maxima, we are probably gonna get it tonight. Thanks!

Are you freakin nuts man?
Why would you pay $3500 down and pay $350/month and lease a car?
Sure, a fully loaded Maxima is a nice car, but so is a cheaper GXE. Even a GXE comes with power windows, door locks, ABS and stuff. If you're paying that much down payment and that much monthly payments, the payments should go towards buying the car, not leasing it.
I pay $390 for my 98SE and my brother pays $400 for a 4 year term for his 2k GXE. We both put down 2 grand each for down payments.
One thing I MUST have in my car is leather. I dont need nice stereos or sunroof.
Go to your nissan dealer and pick out an barebone GXE with an automatic. Since it most likely will not have leather, you need to tell the salesman you want leather. That will add about a thousand bucks to the total price of the car, and the dealer will send the car to an upholstery place they deal wth to put on the leather. I got friends who did that and the quality is very nice. It's the same as factory leather. I should have done that too when I got my car but I didnt know. And that barebone GXE will probably not have CD player. Just go to crutchfield and pick out a nice cd player for $250 bucks and pop it in. If you do exactly as wha I say and put $3500 down, monthly pay will be around $350 too, and the car is for keeps.
I just think that's a smarter buy.

Re: Are you freakin nuts man?
yeah, i know, but if i were to buy a car, it has to be fully loaded. (but the car is not for me) But she is following in my foot steps. I bought my used 91 maxima, but it was fully loaded at the time. She prefers the SE cuz of the accessories:
Z limited slip differential (not offered on GXE)
Heated seats
Bose stereo (important)
sunroof
17" wheels, fogs, spoiler, etc.
I think she would look nicer in a white 2001 Infiniti G20t, i think that the max is too big for her and too powerful.
Better value ->definately the maxima (almost the same gas mileage as the G20, except with 2 more cylinders and 77 more HP) for a couple thousand more dollars.
dunno, i was just wondering if that deal is bad, or do you think i would be able to come down on it?

When you said $3500 down, you mean it's cap deduction? or it's the drive off cost(1st payment, security deposit, bank fee, etc).
If it's cap deduction, then it's a rip off. every $1000 cap deduction equal $30 in monthly payment, so it's equal a ~$455/mo with zero cap, that's almost there for a BMW 3 series.
If it's drive off cost, which I doubt, cuz it should be ~$2000, unless $1500 of it is cap deduction, it's still not a good deal anyway, but I won't scream murder about it.

Go to route 22 Nissan in Hillside. It's deceiving because it is a small place and there are not a lot of cars on the lot. But they have several storage lots and sell tons of Maxes and have some 2000s left. You can probably get a good deal. I went through priceline and got the car through them. The internet sales guy's name is Kenny Burke. He'll cut you a good deal. I don't know how they work leases, but as hokiemax (VA Tech ?) stated, the costs you listed are close to buying. Good luck.
