Don't get your parents involved. I know it may seem like the neighborly thing to do but no telling how they will react to this. Let the police contact them and explain things. I'm sure dialogue between you two will eventually happen and just stick with the facts: You woke up, found your car damaged with no note or anything, and you called police to investigate/file report. The police did their job, found the right car, and took it away.

Some ******* backed into my car scratched the front bumper and busted my passenger side DC... If i found out who it was, i'd have no feelings for the ******* who hit and then left... I'd call the cops right away and try to torch his stank *** as much as possible...

FOR THOSE WHO ARE JUST JOINING

Nadir, a good natured Maxima Enthusiast goes to bed. Having had a good day on the .org, he drifts off to sleep dreaming of Catbacks, Turbos, Tranny swaps and 2 inch drops.

Then from some unknown location..a crazy driver speeds down the road on his/her way home .....

They almost made it home..until

BANG!!!!.....

and they speed off

He grabbed his camera

and proceeded to take this great picture

He then comes back to the org..and shares his story and pictures.

We are definately sorry to hear about this accident....but it is turning out to be a good soap opera.

This is just a story..the names have been changed to protect the innocent

LOL nice story... except the guy backed into my car when they were moving their cars around to get their RV outta their driveway (so i assume...)

Dude it's so trippy, i called the police dept for advise...

10 min pass by after hanging up and the 2 squad cars roll into the court....
15 min later they have determined that the taurus did the damage...
20 min later, tow truck shows up and hauls it away.

all that under 45 min!! mad props to the cops

What insurance do you have? Take it to a reputable body shop. Before they do an official estimate, ask them if since you have to get a new door, maybe they can repaint the whole car cuz the door wont perfectly match the car. Probably not actually noticable on black, but im sure you'd be happy to have the car with all new paint for your trouble

right after the guy hit your car he should have gone and notified you guys.. he is getting everything he deserves.. as far as taking the law into your own hands.. you're bound to lose that way.

my .02 is that you don't want the entire car repainted, you always want it as original as possible. It's not the color match that's the problem, it's when panels are straightened and bondo is applied and sanded, the texture is not right and can be seen when the car is clean through the reflection.

Anyone see that show on choppers? They used a pearlescent paint that cost $4,700 per gallon. I was wondering at that price, how the **** could they be stirring it with a wooden stick? Seems pretty dumb or the guy was lying about the cost of the paint.

we have state farm... but the cops said we didn't even have to notify our insurance because my neighbors have to pay for it all. Either way, my insurance has already been notified... i'm just waiting for them to come back.

Actually, i just checked (10AM) , and their grandma is parked outside their house even though the family not at home... weird.

as for the car being repainted... man that would be so cool hahah, i've got sooo many rock chips all over the front. Doubt that's going to happen, but i will make sure that entire door matches.

WELL they came home, it was funny to see their frantic faces looking for their car....

but my dad went out there immediately and told them what happen. The kid claimed he never hit it... they think that someone stole their car, hit it, and reparked it

im hella ****ed at my dad, he apoligized for their inconvenience... blah whatever. Well whatever, they will have to pay for all that **** and they said their insurance will cover for the damages. Oh well i guess it didn't go too bad... as long as they replace my entire door and paint match it.

Also, I'm sure the kid must have told his parents that they hit my car... the way they talked to us and stuff made it look like they had it all planned out. Ah whatever, they need to owe up now. I'm just ****ed I didn't get an apology... they know how much time i put my time into that car! I'll keep you guys posted.

Ok well, he has AAA insurance...

SO NOW, what's the best course of action, on my part?? Do i take it to a body shop or what?? I've never been in this situation before... need some advise from the pros!

thanks.

Your neighbors are slime. To give you their insurance info and state that their insurance will take take of it without accepting fault? Dude, you better watch out and make sure they don't tell their insurance company that they aren't to blame. The story about the car getting stolen or that they don't know what happened is so bogus, i can't believe they would use that. If they really didn't know what happened, they could have said YOU were the one who hit their car accidentaly when you went to park your car. Get a copy of the police report and definitely make sure their insurance company is accepting the bill.

yeah... i wish they just admit it. I'm curious to know how the hell they hit my car! the angle they would have to be in, in order to hit my car, was hella weird. Oh well, their insurance better cover it.

So what do you guys suggest I do now. Do I take it to a nissan dealership or something to see how much it would cost? Damn I was thinking of just getting money from their insurance and finding some body shop to fix my car and w/ any extra money, I could use it to get a stillen lip or something. Only thing I'm worried about is that they'd have to paint match my entire car and so I would have to find a really expensive body shop or something.

Blah what to do! how much do you guys think my damage would run? Basically, door replacement + painting.

Like I said before, take it to a really upscale place. Some place that works on expensive cars all the time. Chances are they will say they can't paint match an entire door to a 7 year old car and will have to repaint or at least reapply the clearcoat to the whole car.

About the insurance. AAA is pretty good afaik. Whether or not your neighbors claim to be at fault, the police report will show them to be at fault unless they have the slightest shread of proof that the car was stolen (and file a police report to that effect). Their insurance will show them as at fault and cover the damages.

I believe AAA likes to work with specific body shops. You can probably check their website or call up and ask for a list of places in the south bay. Call up a few of em and express your concern about paint matching and that you think the car should be repainted and see what kind of responses you get, it's worth a try. Don't bother with a Nissan dealer, they will just send it out to whatever paint shop they use for regular stuff. I do know that when my friend's Audi S4 was hit in the rear fender, Steven's Creek Porche/Audi re-clearcoat'd the whole car.

Good luck man!

I had the exact same damage to my door and it turned out to be $1000 and took aboug 4-5 days to complete. I'm pretty sure yours will be close to the same as long as there isn't an internal door damager (power window or rails).

Or you could take the money, get a used door, bolt it on, wire it up and take the extra money and have fun with it.

Thanks for the info guys.

Jon- so what should i do... he said he would contact his insurance tomorrow and report it. I remember when my dad got rear ended by a chick who had AAA... he had to go to their collision center to get an estimate and stuff. Would I have to go through them? Or would I go to a bodyshop to get an estimate and whatnot before goin through all that. THanks! I'm goin through the AAA site right now... i found a local listing under the category called "Direct Repair Network Auto Body Shops" ..

also... they gave us their insurance card for another car... i just photocopied that. I'm assuming that every car has a different policy number... but it's ok right? I plan on just letting my insurance handle it.

I found a listing of AAA recommended body shop and I will call them firt thing tomorrow morning to see what they say about my color and 7 year old paint. I wasn't happy w/ the body work they did at the one my dad went to last time that was "AAA recommended"

Since its a hit and run and it was their car that did it, cant you just take the car wherever you want to take it and they have to fix it???

nadir, be careful here. MOST insurance companies have provisions that state if the car is stolen and is in an accident they will not pay for any damage that it does. It usually has to be proven but I hope this is not the angle these people are playing.

If you have your own collision on the car with your company then you're covered and will only be out your deductible.

Let us know what happens.

wow I didn't know that... they have AAA so they would probably have a provision like that or something. The problem is, my car doesn't have our own collision so if they plan on goin that angle, i'm screwed.. but they don't know that obviously. As soon as the insurance offices open up again, i'm getting that included in our policy just in case someone decides to do somethin to my car.

I don't know how they can claim it was stolen... it all happened in one night (9PM-8AM). I don't think they will go that route... i'll keep you guys posted.

Nadir,

I went through the same thing this past January. The only difference is the bastard that hit me caused me $3235 in damage. When I saw my car the next morning, I was

However, I did some detective work (Looked for pieces of the car, matched the color by going to a paint shop with a sample). I filed the police report first thing and I did some neighborood surveillance until I caught the bastard 3 days later.

This iw what mine looked like.

Good luck in nailing the bastard.

If their car has a broken side window along with a popped ignition, then the stolen excuse might be remotely possible. If not, then their just not willing to admit it was their fault. Plus who in the world would steal a car and then return it to the owner.
