Well, I don't see why he would have to report to insurance that his son was the one who caused the accident... since there were no witnesses or anything, can't he have just said he or his wife did it?

Either way, I was shocked to learn that his rates hiked so much... i feel hella sorry for him regardless all this bs that I went through. As of now, as long as my car is restored and an alternate ride for me is prepared (rental or somethin) i am fine.

Oh yeah, and at first, I had been in the mindset of milking their insurance company... but now, i don't care anymore... i know i can't get my car entirely clearcoated, actually the bodyshop I decided to go to won't even blend my paint! But they are more expensive... we'll see how it goes. We're still waiting for them to get back to us on what they've decided, although I'm hoping they stick to having it done through insurance.

One more thing, since there's been a police report, and reported to insurance, isn't it too late for them to back out??

More than likely, the guy is giving you a snow job. Usually rates (in the form of "surcharges") don't show up until the next renewel period. It is possible that he asked his insurance guy approximately how much it will go up, but what you may not know is other incidents/tickets he may have racked up. I wouldn't feel bad at all for him. It is bad enough that no matter how well it is fixed, your baby will never be the same and will have an accident attached to your VIN#.

damn that's true, now if people carfax my car, an accident report would come up right?

But now that their insurance company knows about the accident and the police report has been filed, is it too late for them to back out from insurance and pay us with their own money so they can avoid the hiked up insurance premium ?

Nope. Only if the damage was severe enough to cause a title change. ie.. stolen(not that idiot carfax has a heading for stolen), salvage(ie.. total, insurance buys and resells)

Don't know about that... I was involved in a couple accidents, one very minor and the other involving new front end components. BOTH show up on carfax! I think if a police report was done, the vin# was noted and an accident recorded. Either that or maybe the insurance companies document accidents as public record? Either way, neither accident was severe.

wow , it's been over a month now and your car is not finished yet??

I had an accident one time and i made a police report. Went to my insurance to report it a few days later, they (my insurance)checked the damage, gave me money to get it fixed that same day. They filed a claim to the other guys insurance and a 2 weeks later, they informed me that it's been settled with the other guys insurance. I get to pick what bodyshop to go to and i have a free car rental while my car is in the bodyshop. My car was fixed within two weeks after the accident and i didn't have theheadaches of dealing with the other guy.

a month is nothing! When somebody did a hit and run on my car (never caught who did it) it took me an entire year to get everything resolved. The main problem was the bodyshop that "fixed" my car ended up messing up my car more. So it took a whole year and many dealings with the BBB and attorney generals office to get things resolved.

I'm glad things worked out good for your though.

Whats even better is how we all have digi cams now so we can show a story with pics.

I LMAO when I saw the one pic of the popo, then the car on the flat bed.
Lol...same here. It's well illustrated.

Good luck with the car, nadir!

AAA is pretty easy to work with. I did choose my own bodyshop actually. They specialize in BMW and this bodyshop is so good, that there's always long waits for an appointment.

The reason why it's taking so long is because I wanted to rebuild my transmission before I take it into the bodyshop. The tranny shop ****ed up and ended up having the car for about a week and a half. When I got my car back, I called and rescheduled and they gave me an appointment that was 2 weeks later...

It's not so bad that I don't hav my car because they gave me a brand new grand am rental. Actually, i'm hoping to get a call today w/ good news that my car is ready to be picked up

I'll post before/after pics!

B-Line Bodyshop
downtown SJ

possibly the best in the south bay, but very very expensive. The car is still in the shop, but I'll post pictures so that you can get a better idea of the quality work that they do.
