What exactly do you mean that it wasn't working? That it didn't lock out the overdrive, or allow you to go into overdrive?

hey thanks for the prompt reply!

well if I want to take overdrive off, the 'O/D OFF' light does not light up when I press the overdrive button on the shifter...

I would have thought the light burnt out or something but it lights up as it always does when i start up the car, and then turns off... could it be something disconnected on the shifter?

But when you push the overdrive button does the car actually downshift and lock in 3rd gear?

It could be a short in the button. You can always get a levoc shift ****

You can tell by the rpms jumping up. Say your at 50mph if your in 3rd the rpms will be around 3000 with the OD off. Check www.custommaxima.com or www.southwestautoworks.com for the Levoc Shifter.

About 40 in 1st, 82 in 2nd, dont do redline in 3rd you can get in some serious trouble its 125 at 6600rpm in 3rd and 4th I belive will take you up to 170ish (if you have 350+hp to get there that is) The fastest mines been up to was in the mid 130's. 5spds are obviously faster.

Hey, guys, can someone help me with this: my 93 maxima OD OFF light never comes on, whether OD is on or off. It doesn't come on when I turn the key to ON either. The light bulb itself is good - I checked. The overdrive itself also works, but the light doesn't What can this be? Please help!!!

EDIT: I have 93 Maxima SOHC, A/T

lol 8 year old thread bump

you should really always have OD on, especially on a older tranny. its probably wiring in the cluster thats screwing up the light, but as long as your OD itself is working dont worry about it.
