Calipers sticking .. how much is this gunna cost??
I've noticed the last two times I've taken a drive (highway) that my car was making a whirling noise on and off , it occured to me that the sound was exactly the same as when I brake lightly-moderatly. The noise isnt the problem, as it's normal from x-drilled/slotted rotors, but I was hearing this even when totally off the brakes. Sure enough, when I finally stopped my passenger side rear rotor was giving off some serious heat and smelled of burnt brake pad. The rest of them were barely warm just for the record. I'm pretty confident that the caliper is sticking, seems obvious enough, my question is : About how much would it cost to get it rebuilt, and while I'm at it, maybe the other 3 as well. Im talking labor + parts, I lack what is nesicary for a DIY job unfortunatly.

Just a suggestion. Instead of having them rebuilt, it is probably cheaper to buy rebuilt calipers from O'Reilly, Pep Boys, etc. and change them yourself. As a comparison, I priced 91 300ZXTT rebuilt calipers, aluminum ones, last week, and they were only $65 ea. plus a $50 ea. core charge(which would not effect you, trade your old ones back in to net to zero core charge). If you can have someone help you who has experience bleeding brakes its a simple unbolt the old, bolt in the new process.

Would it be ok to just do the single caliper? Or will it compress differently from the others?. At least this gives me a good excuse to paint my calipers and the parts of my rotors that don't touch pad. Sorta OT but is it possible that it is actually my brakes that are making a rubbing noise and not my rear tires. It seems to be happening when I turn but I've got like a 2 finger gap in the rear so it doesnt seem like its even possible. It actually got worse when I removed weight from my trunk (took the spare out). which is really confusing me. First, jack up the back of the car, tires off the ground, and turn each wheel to see if one turns much easier than the other. Bet the one you think is sticking is a lot harder to turn and sounds like the brakes are engaged. Just to make sure, pull the wheel off the side that is sticking and inspect the tire, front and back side, to see if it looks like any rubbing going on. Also look at the suspension, parking brake line, inner fender, etc, and see if looks like something has been hitting. Check strut and sway bar mounting points to make sure they are tight.

Go get a rebuilding kit from Nissan. All you have to do it take the piston out, clean it up, replace the seal and dust cover and your set to go. It's an easy job and shouldn't cost more then 25 bucks.
