MEVI - EGR Gasket question

Got the MEVI in, but how critical is it to have the EGR gasket on?

I forgot to put it back on during the install of the VI, and it seems like it would be quite a lot of work to put it on

You will need it

You will have a vacuum leak without it. You do not have to remove the whole manifold to replace it. I did the same thing and just loosened a few bolts and slid it in.

Actually, to be honest with you, I also forgot to install the gasket. I started the car and it turned over, but immediately turned off. There was a HUGE leak that you could hear. So, I looked on the USIM and saw the gasket permanently attached to it. I was a little p!ssed off to say the least......

Mine doesn't seem to have a leak, and it runs fine, but I guess I'll still install it for peace of mind.

Man, I do not envy you looking at your USIM and still seeing the gasket attached If that happened to me, as I'm sure I'm capable of, I would've thrown some tools out the window

are you leaking coolant? i know coolant passes through there with the 2 hoses on both sides of the EGR. i would get that gasket in there ASAP with some RTV red to ensure a proper seal.

Funny thing...I pressed down on the gas and cranked it @ the same time, and she fired right up. It doesn't look like I'm leaking coolant, as we didn't see any signs of "wetness" in the area. The car is working fine for now tho :\ Hope that was just a freak case.
