well a whole day gone and still no idea of the problem. I'm confused, depressed and worried at the problem, and price to fix. Tomorrow i'm gonna take a ride down there before work and see if i can do 1 of 3 things, let them continue looking for problem, tow it to nissan and let them look at it, or tow it to my regular mechanic. I dont know who would know most about this problem especially if its an electrical or fuel problem but i know i'm about to spend a lot of money .

obviously u dont know much about cars(u were asking how to change the oil) Anyway it would be so much sipler if you towed the car somewhere nice and have then look a it. Nissan I believe will ripp you off(its th last resort) Instead of jerking with it urself Tow the b*tch and fix it.

If the car starts up with new battery then its ur alty. So charge it and drive to mechanick. If its the alty, charge it again and drive to nissan and get it done under RECALL and throw away ur system/or get custom altanator to handle the power.

its at a shop right now and has been at a shop since last night. The whole day they looked at the car and couldnt find the problem, thats why i'm tempted to send it to nissan but the car wont start so i know it will take them a little longer than usual to find a problem i guess.

and we did put a new battery in and it started and we took battery out while car was on for a good 15 seconds and the car still ran (although we cut everything off, lights, system, etc.). I dont know anymore, i'm just gonna have to see what happens.

As far as system goes, i know too many people with bigger and better systems than me, i dont think i need a stronger alternator althought that would help, i just think i need a capacitor. I'm running 2 amps which total a peak power of 1,000 watts between the two and they are not running at peak power the way they are wired. a 1 Farad cap should do the job i believe...which i have ready to install once i get my car running again.

If its an alternator problem, i'm going to go to a nearby pep boys or whatever and get a yellow top battery and throw it in the car, hope it starts and if so have someone follow me from behind to the nearest nissan and get alty changed through recall like u suggested...

remember not to use the A/C or stereo while your driving with no alternator

ok, there is a possibility that my ECU could be damaged and i may need a new one. A few fuses blew...well not to say i do yet but just to bring up the subject, if i am due for a new ECU, i was gonna get a 97 but a friend of mine *ahem* recommends me getting a 95-96 ECU cause its better but i'm worried about CEL light staying on. I dont want that to happen. What have some of u guys done to get rid of the light besides taking bulb out or something of that sort?

and what do u guys recommend me do if i need a new ECU

i do have a 5 speed and i tried to push start it out my friends driveway, and it cut off on my friend like 2 seconds after starting...

i've bought an ecu for 125 before, dont plan to spend anymore than that now.

I just want to know if u guys think i should stick with a 97 ECU or try a 95-96 since they are supposed to be better...

MAJOR UPDATE:

the ecu was definitely fried. I saw the fuses that blew and I also smelled the computer and it definitely smelled like burnt rug or of that sort. I went to paterson junkyard, got me a used ecu from a 97 SE 5 speed, exact same production date (that was a coincidence) and teh car had 81,000 miles on it. Should have my car back by tomorrow afternoon latest, in time for the big meet on saturday, woot.

Now the big question is, how did this happen, and what can i do to prevent it?????

150 bucks, came off an exact car like mine except beige with cream interior. The car had 81,000 miles on it which is better than the 135,000 i have on mine.

I bought an ECU before for my first maxima for 125, i could have gotten this one cheaper in other places but i didnt want to drive down to NY or have one shipped, wanted to get one asap and get my car back asap, pretty certain i'll have my car back tomorrow afternoon latest and will take it in a long cruise...me...and my car....me....and my car...have a lot of catching up to do...

You dont know what u got till its gone.... <== very strong words

there was a tach wire going to my ecu which they took off. At first i was like "whatever" cause i havent really had remote start in a minute since i never found the right bolt to hold down clutch button but getting out the car for quick stops with my keys and car still running was a major benefit and they took that away from me . DON WHERE R U!!! i'll get it back soon......
