Well It doesn't stink; but it IS annoying?! I have had mine for almost a year now and the thing has been back to the factory for repairs twice now. The laser warning goes off for no reason every once in a blue moon. I know someone here said that they had theirs turned off, but that won't work for me as laser is hot in Ohio.
I am getting to the point where I think that a 10year old design is outdated and needs to be replaced!( I know Mikey is working on one..but I am sick of waiting) I like this unit, don't get me wrong. However, it does false a lot and the thing is plain ugly. I am about to go out and buy a Passport 8500. What's holding me back is that they don't offer a 'send it in and we'll update it' program like V1 does. But then again, V1 has had to offer that service once in the last 10years with this design with the advent of laser and superwideband radar.
I won't buy the BEL b/c I had one and the damn thing falsed more than it remained silent....855sti I think it was..biggest piece of junk I have ever had in my car.
So...what do you think? Should I get the Passport 8500 for $260? How much can I get for my V1? I see it going on EBAY for $360 WITHOUT the concealed display. I think I can ask $375 and get it bc/ I DO have the concealed display...you guys?

there was a link on one of the posts on this site where the V1 go 50-60% and the bel 980 and Escort recieved 90+%

I have a Bel, forget the model, its 2 yrs old now, but it has never failed me, rarely falsed alarmed. It is rated 2nd best to the V1. V1 is a gimick now persoanlly like the Tornado, the cheaper radars Bel, Passport will work just as good and you DON'T need a direction indicator, its not a good idea gee let me look at my radar, I rather hear it, ok its real, slow down, then wait till I pass him, then accel again. I don't care what direction he is at, I just want to be warned.

I had a cheap bell (880)It picked up well I thought,but I didn't like the voice messages on it...I'm thinking about a Passport 6800 or a Bel 980...Does anyone know anything about these???????

I've had the bel980 since Christmas, It's been great, picks out cops far enough to get me back to the speed limit. Everyone seems to hate the talking, but 1. On the 980 I believe you can turn off, and 2. At night, or if theres a cop behind you, you can turn off the lights on it and just listen for radar. It's a great radar for half the price of the V1, I got mine on ebay for $220.

Check your owner's manual, I have a Bel 870 and I can turn the voice messages off. I'm positive you can, too. I haven't yet, but I will.

You're right, it's annoying.
