Does ECU production date really matter?
need a new ECU and i dont think i have to match the production date.
I say this because a friend of mine on the org has a 96 maxima GLE and i had a 95 GLE and we both had conversion done to our cars and when my car got totaled, i gave it to him and his engine light went off after installing it.
I have a 97, not sure of production date because i dont have car on me but just wanted to get an input on if production date even matters? If two years work together, why wouldnt another ECU with same trim and tranny work? i can match everything except production date and it should still work right?

ECU production is important because there were minor changes in program code and sometimes emissions between the ECU models. The more reputable junkyards don't want to let go of the incorrect match ECUs because there is always the possibility that they could be held responsible for offering a product that void federal emissions. It's a long shot, but it is an offense. I talked to two junkyards who told me the same exact thing.
BTW, most junkyards won't sell any used exhaust parts (b-pipes, mufflers, headers) simply because the federal law is so gray.
