shop told me what's wrong w/ my tranny... diffy bearings
shop told me what's wrong w/ my tranny... diffy bearings
well...
my tranny has 150k miles exactly. Over the phone, he said that the parts that need to be replaced are:
2 bearings
4th gear
3rd gear
a couple synchros
I told him that I wanted the differential bearings shim replaced and have the preload reset. Also, I need to tell him to fix the excessive play in my shifter. He said he'll save the broken parts and show me. I'll take one of the bearings for a souvenir... i thought the damage would be more considering i drove 15k miles w/ the problem lol.
How much do you think those parts would be? I'm concerned about where he would get those parts... im assuming dealership items only, right?
Well, when we first started, he wrote on the estimate paper that worst case scenario would be $1100. It could be cheaper than that. I gave him my exedy clutch and he said he'd resurface flywheel for free. The thing that bugged me is he sent the tranny to another shop for the rebuild. oh well, we'll see how it goes tomorrow. He told me it would be ready tomorrow, but i Don't see how that's possible. argh they've been quite frustrating to talk to. oh well, we'll see how it goes.

Hey Nadir. for the cost of all those parts and labor, you are looking well near $1000.00 for the job. Did they give you a price quote yet?
I would seriously look into finding another tranny, and just replacing the bearings on it. That is what I did. I found a perfect one for $400.00, bought new bearings/shims, bought one of Shadow's LSD differentials, etc. It ended up costing me a little around $1000.00 for the whole thing. Just something to ponder about......

nooooooooooooooo no more pondering about replacing or rebuilding. what's done is done... plus, i did some searching around and gave up. trannies cost from $600-$800 around here. This way I get at least 1 year warranty and hope that no more problems.
Read around the Org and its seems like most people who've had their trannies rebuilt by outside shops and themselves end up having tranny problem later on. The only people I'd let touch my tranny or engine internals would be Nissan. This is because Nissan is what they're trained in. They know the correct procedures, torque and shim setting, have the correct tools, etc to do the job the right way. It's more expensive, but you get peace of mind.

If they are going to replace synchros or gears they will be fooling around with the main shaft and input shaft in the tranny. These have shims too and may have to be checked and re adjusted. I had to check the shims on the input shaft (table in the nissan Manual)when I replaced an input shaft bearing. Make sure you ask them their shim measurenments and how they came up with them. Because they may just use the same old shims and put the tranny together. Take no B.S from them because you will not want to do this repair again 6 months to a year down the road.
well i called the shop right now, i can't believe the ******* is giving attitude. He was like "blah blah blah, u already told me what's wrong, it has to do something w/ the differential spacers..."
Differential spacers? ****ing mother****ing a;klsjfa;slfkj;asdfljk so I got ****ed and told him that i freakin called him to know when my car is going to be ready because both him and the other guy said it woudl be done by today. the *** is going to call me in an hour...

Dunno bout that either. You read motorvate.ca's experiences and even the dealer screwed it up. Honestly they'd just say "we're gonna replace the entire tranny". Still no regrets I finally pitched that POS.
well I went to go check on my car which was suppose to be done by yesterday...
they were trying to fit the axel into the tranny but it wouldn't budge. So now they have to remove it all again and send it to whichever shop they sent it to before to get it fixed. stupid gay ****ers, blah now i gotta reschedule my bodyshop crap.
