Are dust caps necessary?

I took them off yesterday when I put my rims on because the centerbore of the rims were too small. If it is necessary, what are my options. Make the centerbore off my rims a little bit bigger? We took off the hub and put some clear silicone on the centercap and put on the rims.

hubs? or do you mean the dust caps in the rear? or hub-centric rings?

dust caps are metal caps that cover the bolt for the hubs.

i had to do the same thing for my rims to fit on the rears too. will this have any effect on my car? can I buy smaller dust caps that might fit?

If you check them regularly, it shouldn't be a problem.

Are you using spacers+smaller centerbore wheels?
