Engine Sounds...(x)Gen vs. (x)Gen

I know that 3rd and 4th gens have the same aspects in teh engine sounds. Like, when I added my pop charger to my 3rd gen and when I hear a pop charger on a 4th gen, it sounds the same.

BUT...when Jared and Albert showed me their pop chargers....it makes no sound like 3rd and 4th gens.

Same w/ exhausts. Alberts GReddy is silent compared to Jaime's (Jay25)

Whats up w/ that?

I've noticed intake exhaust tones differ HEAVILY between DOHC and SOHC motors. I noticed this very much last year working on many SOHC and DOHC hondas, suprisingly when modded the two sound totally different when on the throttle. my guess would be the same for both the SOHC VG and DOHC VE/VQs

are you comparing 5th to 4th?? oh I thought you were comparing the 4th and 5th to the 3rd gens.

were the resonators on their intakes in or removed?? and also replacing the stock accodian pipe with aluminum pipe like Frankencar, etc. changes sound as well.

Really depends on the intake filter you use as well. KINGMAX's intake sounds a lot deeper than the other 4th gen guys at work. The other guys have mid pipes and K&N filters, while he has a random ricer filter.
Mr Gone and I always thought that the VE engine just naturally sounds a little more "p!ssed off" than the VQ

haha, p!ssed off.

Well, the VGs VEs and VQs (4th gens) sound a lot more p!ssed off than 5th gens. 5th gens are so quiet (even stock) compared to 3rd and 4th gens...

anyone agree on that?

I agree completely. I have a few friends with modded 4th gens and the intake alone is just as loud asmy car with the Y-pipe and cat-back... A 4th gen with an Injen CAI sounds sooo awesome.

VG/VQ's sound mellow stock

VE sounds very ****ed off.

VG seems to have a slight whine to it, almost electronic. The VG is just quiet, but does have some agressiveness to the top end. VE, just ****ed off past idle/midrange.

Come listen to my car and you will not say the 5th Gen's are quiet...

Most guys can attest that the 2k2+ has a mean motor when the gag is removed.

They have been comparing the 3.0L motors, not the 3.5. And I agree with you completely, I've said it before and I'll say it again, I personally believe the 3.5L with just an intake alone is the best sounding v6 engine I've EVER heard, it sounds incredible. Which is why I would trade my turboed max for a 6 speed 2k2-2k3 any day. It's worth it just for the sound.

a VG third gens sounds MEAN!!

I dont notice too much of a difference between my 4th gen and the modded 5th gens.... pretty much we sound very similar- depends on type of exhaust and popcharger vs CAI

my car is loud...but i have always thought the 5th gens have a more quiet luxurious sound. As bijan said, my car is a bit loud, but not loud enough to where i would take people for a ride and they would complain.

Y2kev's car sounded "LOUD!!" in his videos though.....

but albert, I remember right when you got your exhaust (at the X-rated show)....you reved it up, and it wasnt very loud. I guess it's cuz your engine wasnt warmed up yet.

I'm talkin about when it's just not been on for a while.

All cars sound throatier in the winter cuz of the cooler air.

i think the 4th gen sounds good i have a JWT POPcharger and just ordered a frankencar midpipe for my 4th gen, so i hope to get some extra cool engine noise.

i thought the 2k2 with intake sounded the best, i also would refer to steves 2k2 SE. that motha sounds bad !

while i have heard very few maxima besides my own. it would be hard to match the fury in a modded 2k2

with just home made pop charger and removed intake resonator, my VE was almost deafening to people outside the car. i've been driving my dad's 97SE auto and when i wind it out i can tell that with just an intake, it'd sound just as loud, but i dont know if it'd be as mean.

There is no contest here.

Even in arguments the VQ guys comment that the VE is not as refined and just loud...then when it comes to people talking about which one is louder and meaner, they back out of that...

VE is one loud SOB!

I had my car idling next to carnal c30s both of us have full exhaust and intake and mine was CLEARLY burblier and louder.

After doing the Intake Mod's to AntonTheGrey's car, The VG with modified stock intake is one Loud SOB. It is unbelievable. Stock exhaust, everything.

My 2000 with an InJen sounded alot more agressive compared to stock, but that VG stock modified just dwarfs me. I wish I would have hacked more of my intake tube on the VE, that would have scared the living day lights out of some people
