For reasons I don't care to go into right now (read-"my own stupidity") I am unfortunately running stock calipers on my 13" rotors right now. But they work. They work too well, hence my need for R compounds. I'll post the details of my setup and what happened later.

I decided to check my MEVI valves because people had been having problems with them. I popped off the cover and look what I found.

You can see one screw to the left of the detatched valve. The other screw was in the little opening below and between the two Ws in the text I wrote on there. I don't know what happened to the little arrow I had put on there. I got lucky.

Neal, did you use loctite or anything? I assume that was my mistake...but if you did...

This seems to be getting more and more common.

What was involved to make the stock calipers work the the 13" rotors? Could this be a semi-break upgrade for people that can't use Z calipers because of their wheel offsets (read: ME!)?

Are they much better than stock?

Yes they are MUCH better than stock. Good enough that even my brand new Toyo T1-S aren't cutting it at the track anymore (I'm talking about road course here, not drag strip). I can't apply more than 50% pedal effort or I'm locking them up. I'll email you with details later tonight but I have to head to work now.

No i didnt use loctite I just tightened them down real good with a large screw driver rather than the puny one I used before. I will be putting some superglue or something on them later, but my MEVI is out of commission right now anyways, I fried my harlan switch somehow.

Very nice work Nealoc. But you have made lemonaid out of lemons in this case. The Cobra rotor + stock calipers should be a very nice compromise brake upgrade kit. Especially if they work even nearly as well as you experienced.

Things like this make me glad I didn't rushto put this thing on. Over the weekend I used Loctite's Superglue on all of the screws but maybe it was a good idea to glue the valves to the rod too.

Neal: Aren't those your 15 inch Kosei's?????? If you are using the stock calipers there, won't the 300zx calipers touch the inside portion of the rim? Anyways, I would like to talk to you about the bracket you used.....

I am just wondering if those brakes will clear the rims you run slicks on at the track, because it looks like a fairly tight fit on the 17's from the pics.

I don't have 15" Koseis. I have 17" Koseis. 13" rotors and calipers wouldnt have a prayer of fitting under 15" wheels.

If I go drag racing I will either do it on my street tires or I will swap out the rotors and put 300zx rotors on.

Should. My buddy had 15" K1's with Z32 brakes all around (front and rear) on his Silvia.
