97/98 - The Fastest Maximas?
97/98 - The Fastest Maximas?
In a previous thread, there were a lot of comments about the 97/98 maximas being the fastest, is that accurate? I've read the writeup on the battle of the 3.0s, but are the 4gens faster than the 3.5?
Would that be with a SC or Turbo? Or are they really faster with just bolt-on mods?
Either way, I love my max.
Thanks.

This doesn't apply to the 3.5s but its a great article on the 3 liter maximas.

Its funny you say that after the complete write up, FACTORS FACTORS FACTORS. WE can get into another pi$$ing match bout this or just respect the numbers, to disprove your thoughts of a 96 being faster... Raced a 96 w/ intake apexi ws exaust on 15" rims for the track w/ my 2k on 18" street rims stock, he beat my light and I beat him down the 1/4, both 5 speeds... yada yada yada. just go with the numbers will ya!

97s are the best though

mine is the racing model from Nissan

no power antenna, no lighted vanity mirrors, steelies, no trunk pop mines activated by a lever

saves weight= I have the fastest Maxima yup uhum

in addition, 95/96 has less ECU restriction, GXE models being the lightest. but some GXE models do have the speed limiter, simply follow the 4th gen FAQ and remove it then u won't have any more problems : )

The question should have been, "What's the lightest 4th gen?" The answer is obviously the 95-96 GXE 5-speeds. But they're not necessarily the fastest because it's relative to the driver. This thread could on and on forever but I think it's kinda pointless. Cars don't drive themselves.

Geez, some of you guys get so touchy. "They did the battle, read it!" and "depends what you mean by fast" and "you need to know how to drive it first".
I was just asking b/c I saw a few comments about those particular models being the "fastest", and I was curious if there was something I didn't know about those specific years.

Of course there's all kinds of way you can measure how "fast" a car is. Off the line, 0-60, 1/8, 1/4, etc etc. But that doesn't mean that you shouldn't be able to have a general discussion about how fast a car is without having to get into the nitty gritty details.
Hell, people talk about track times all the time, and there's probably more factors to consider there than you could think up for qualifying fast (heat/track/weight/gas/etc).
Why is it whenever people talk about how "fast" the max is compared to other cars everyone get's all excited, but suggest that same discussion be had about different generations and you'll envitably get the "oh, another ****ing contest, you can't just say 'fastest' without qualifying it" bs. Or is it just 3.5 envy?

So anyway, I think my original question was answered.
Oh, and SprintMax... I do know how to drive my 3.5. Thanks. And damn do you have a sweeeet ride there! Nicely designed site too.

95/96's have the most modding potential, but any 4th Gen with some mods could run right with any other 4th Gen with some mods depending on the driver.
So say the quickest 4th Gen was a 97. Is it because the car itself was for some reason "better" than all other year 4th Gen's, or is it because the driver, track, weather, were all in perfect alignment and they just happened to get their golden run and having a 97 had nothing to do with it?

i believe some cars are just faster. doesnt matter if its the same year or 95 versus 97. I have a 97 and pulled like mad against a 99 auto, and then only pulled half a car against a 95/96 auto not sure which and I had mods and he didnt to my knowledge.
Another thing that supports this is that lets say you keep you car tuned, you have added a few mods and you keep everything in tip top shape, and the guy beside you misses oil changes, could care less about up keep but does wash and wax the car regularly. I guess what im getting at , is that there are to many things to consider. On any given day, the only way to measure your car is to put it up against someone elses. Somebodys 3rd gen can beat somebodys 4th, and someones 5th can beat someones 6th.
and finally, ( drinking this last beer down) the 3.5 5th gen ! that old piranha will more than likely chew you up ! SO BE CAREFUL !
