First time to the track...

Us down here in Houston went to the track yesterday. My first time out there. It was hot as he!!. I made a total of 7 runs. (could have done many many more but I didn't feel like killing my car in the heat) I did all my runs "fully loaded" meaning a little more than 1/2 tank of gas, back seat, spare, baby seat, evarything I normally have in it. I also brought along a very nice and accurate temp guage to measure air, surface, and fluid temps while there. First run I did 17.550 at 84.72. Intake air temp was 103F. Tire pressure was my normal street 40F/35R. After playing with air pressure, launch techniques, tranny pre-load rpm's I was able to bring it down to a 15.953 at 88.65 with intake air temp at 98F and front pressure at 25psi. I do have some questions. What affects trap speed? I was trapping right with or higher than 2 other max's that were there and beating me. One was a '03 6spd and the other a 4th gen. Also, I have never gotten wheel hop but I was getting it bad at the track, even after dropping my front pressure to 25psi. I found that I got better times if I pre-loaded the tranny to ~1200 instead of 2000 rpm's. I also found that I got slightly better times with O/D off even though I only hit 3rd long enough to cross the line. Why? Does anyone have any tips or suggestions? Next time I go will be in the fall and I will probably do this one "stripped".

I finally was able to race my brother-in-law's '02 SC'ed Harley truck. His best time was 14.8 at ~97mph. He got me by 10 or more car lengths... I fared better against the '03 6spd...

17.5 WOW!!! ive never seen that before...hehe.

O/D off is better, go with 1/4 tank of gas...you should be able to pull some consistent 15s with that.

wrong forum BTW.

there's no way an 03 6-speed should be trapping anywhere near 88 MPH. they should be right around 94-95 MPH if the driver is even average.

I might be wrong about the trap speed for the '03, but I know I trapped higher than one of them at least once. The rest were off by only about .5-.75mph. I know that the '03 had problems with wheel hop really really bad. I held him off on one run for a little more than 1/3 of the way, then he just powered on by...Zoom Zoom.

My friend made that same mistake with his 350Z (the one in my sig pic), and I beat him.

my stock 1997SE (100% stock at the time) ran a 15.8 .

naa...my fastest was 88.65 mph. If i trapped at 89 I might have beaten you. I still would like to know what things effect trap speeds.

It was kinda hot on sunday. I ran a new best in my se-r. When I ran with my street tires I had no traction whatsoever, then I got a bit of wheelhop myself. However I redeemed myself once the slicks got put on. My timeslips are here if it doesn't work just cut and paste. My previous best was 14.88 @ 90mph with a 2.20'. The slicks must be killing my top end because my 1/8 ET/trap should equal 14.4-14.5 1/4 ET.

very nice slips! Wish those were mine! How would slicks effect your top end?
