yay! bodyshop called and said my car is ready for pickup!

i'm excited! it's been about a month since the car has been in and out of shops... first transmission, now replacing the door.

If you guys remember, my car was backed into and there was a bunch of drama about it but now it's all settled. I'll pick it up in 2 hours and post before/after pics.

I'm nervous tho... i hope the paint and all matches perfectly. The guy on the phone said it was good.

Here's the estimate and the work they completed:

*******, they did an excellent job... they painted the door while it was OFF the car and put it back together... they fixed a little ding in the front fender and re-clearcoated that too. They didn't touch any other part of the body. He said since the paint was taken care of, it matched very well. I was surprised, they also detailed the inside of my car

before

after

WOW - That paint has a really nice smooth mirror finish. They must have wet sanded it to match the texture.

Nice Job!

i'm very impressed by the outcome. So 2,000 for a paintjob on one side of the car?

2000 for replacement door... only parts that were painted were just the front driver door and the front driverside fender.

Sorry to say it but the paint doesn't match.

The new door is a little smoother than the original paint. Look at the reflections in the side by side comparisons. Of course, smoother better looking paint than the original is not a bad thing.

From the pics the bodyshop appears to have done an excellent job. Paint is smooth, glossy, and provides an excellent reflection. I'd say it matches very well.

I had to stare at it for a while to make out that the reflection on the top part of the rear door is like, 0.00001% fuzzier than the new paint.
Which is awesome considering the age of that paint.

alright, na_dir!! time to hire a pack of guard dogs so that Grand Am doesn't mysteriously roll back while the family is 'on vacation'...

You can always have the rest of the car buffed out to match the new paint. Give a month before doing it to give the new paint a chance to harden up

You wanna buy a Fidanza now? I'm getting a new batch in 7-10 days.

sorry jeff, i got my tranny rebuilt and i just couldn't afford anything after that.

Well, the paint looks that nice in pictures... if you look at the other parts of the car, i have horrible amount of swirl marks! also, there's no wax on the car hahah, so it could have a deeper look still. Now that I have the car back, it's time to spend more time in the detailing section on the ORG

There's one thing tho... I gotta go back to the bodyshop and have em look at my window. When I close the door, I can hear the window rattle a little bit and this morning when I was doin 80mph, i can hear a slight vibration in the window.

Blah, I also have to go back to the transmission shop and complain about the excessive play those ****ers didn't even fix. i hate repair work

accident

nice job. looks like glass. you are not the only one who had a bad week with the cars. my mom has a brand new jeep grand cherokee limited overland, and it was hit in a parkinglot. the whole back bumper and rear tailgate are macked. to add to all of this, I go outside this morning to walk my dog, and i notice that one of the garage doors is opened half way. i check inside and find that my dads brand new custom motorcycle from that chopper place on TV, had been stolen. that chopper cost over $35,000. the weird part is that my 1999 maxima gle and the brand new yukon denali with 22's are not touched. they were in front of the garage doors. the people stole the bike but did not touch the cars. this has been a crazy week with insurance.

oops, sorry Well i don't remember u asking haha

Do you need the bodyshop info? IM me about it, i'd be happy to give u all the info. I'm goin back on monday morning to have them take care of the rattling I have in my window. They basically replaced everything from my old door to the new door shell. They must have missed something. No big deal tho.

I am car-less yet again... it's back in the transmission shop to get a couple things fixed after they rebuilt the tranny and slapped on my exedy clutch. First of all, they failed to fix or even look at the shifter rattling I was getting + the excessive play I had. I took it back and told them to take a look at it. Secondly, I was getting this groaning sound when the car would slow or accelerate around 0-10mph ... I think the problem was there before, but maybe I can get them to fix it since they were taking apart stuff from that area.

Hopefully they will give it back to my tomorrow (saturday afternoon)... and they don't give me **** or somehow charge me because they're shadey like that.

THEN, on monday morning, I gotta drop by the bodyshop to take care of a couple of things. My window is loose and rattles... they said it would take half hour to fix that. Also, I just noticed last night that my interior lights are all not working. I think the fuse blew, but I can't even check that right now cuz I don't have the car.

Will the madness ever stop?! i just wanna enjoy my car right now!

nope unless you get it all fixed on the first try which would be a miracle in car repair history.

Well, even when driving around w/ a smashed door, there was no difference in driving, noises, or anything else. After the bodyshop, I am getting a rattling from the window. That's the only thing... hopefully that will be fixed.

Blah, I'm waiting for the transmission shop to call and tell me the car is ready for pickup.
