problem is the quality of the remanuf

These are items that are virtually always "remanufactured"--starters, alternators, brake calipers, steering racks and so forth. It's gotten so bad that even a place like NAPA will have many suppliers on the same part, so though the box looks the same, what's inside is anyone's guess. It may have been done in NYC, Cali, or over the border down south. We all hate sweat shops but I guess if the starter costs $90 versus $375 we learn to deal. It's ok when under warranty but a pain in the butt when you gotta pay. Many little guys are not willing to do the work again gratis even if the part is warranted. heck, my '98 has had 4 fuel sending units. Even though I'm over 40,000 it still has time left as it's covered for a year, so I'm keeping my eye on it.

IMHO any replacement part is of a lesser quality than the original, so you hope the originals will last.
