Change Color or Not

Painting my Super Black 98SE soon, cause it needs it. Should I leave it black or change colors? Cost is not the determining factor.

go the mustang color. Everyone has the lexus blue, dont be another member of the crowd. Dont go with an OEM color. I was thinking of the 350z silver but a grayer color would look more masculine. Definitely go mustang gray. Or BMW dark gray

It was a hard vote for me between the 350z silver and mustang color. I picked the 350z silver cause today I stopped by the nissan dealership and damn the 350z is "butters". But either way the 350z or mustang color would be great just dont go for the OEM black or Yellow. Never saw a yellow maxima before and I never want to.

hey, not to ***** the thread here, but i have a quick question...what more is involved to repaint the car a different color? Cost is somewhat of an issue for me, but I will getting my car repainted in the next couple weeks due to the fact that it was vandalized over the weekend. Wether or not I decide to keep stock color I plan on paying the money to get a really good paint job. Any suggestions?

I'd loved to see a 4th Gen in silver, that would be just beautiful. Though it my be OT, I'd also like to add that the 4th Gen max is the best Maxima ever and I miss my Maxine dearly.

Do you have a good picture of this color, because the porsche website is not doing it any justice. Before you ask no there aren't any porsche dealerships around here.

Please don't do the Lexus blue! I think I was the first to do this back in 2001, but since then everyone has painted their car Lexus blue. Most of the reason I'm repainting my car again soon is that so many people have Lexus blue Maximas now.

If you want your car to stand out, which I think you do since yellow is on your list of colors, Lexus blue is not the way to go. BMW colors are always nice, they look very classy. Or maybe even have your painter mix up a custom color. It's a little more work, but if cost isn't the issue here, then why not? That's what I'm doing now. My painter is mixing a custom candy blue for my car. Just something to consider maybe.

I feel you, I've seen a lot of lexus blue MAXs since posting this thread. So that blue is out, maybe the darker Celica blue. The poor showing for yellow tells me it's not a good idea.

Thanks to Sqard for showing me one the hottest colors in that hue, I'm stuck on which grey to go with now. Basically the direction I want to go with now is a none stock color that looks like it should of been. Maxima owners will know that the color is changed but others won't right off hand.

Depending on the present color and the color you are having applied, there might be extra sanding involved to keep the old color from showing through. The door jams, trunk, and underhood are optional, but looks a lot better when they are repainted also. All the painters I've talked to, charge extra for the door jams and stuff and some charged for the extra sanding. It depends on the individual bodyshop really.

where are yall seeing all these maximas with the Lexus blue paint jobs? I chose this color for my car because I wanted to be different and I have yet to see another 3rd gen this color. I really havent looked at 4th or 5th gens and havent been to many shows either so that maybe what and where yall are seeing them.

Shadow you say you painted your car in 2001 did you use the 2001 IS300 paint (code 8M6-blue pearl metalic) or the 2002-2003 color (8N8 Intensa blue pearl)? I chose the Intensa blue since it is lighter than the 2001 color and I liked it more.

I searched for a long time on a blue I wanted to paint my car and this one was the only one I saw in person that hit me as "the one" to paint my car.

It is a lot of work to change colors and do it right. I have my engine bay and under my hood and trunk painted. I am waiting until I finish priming the car before I paint the door jams.

I usually dont post on here but saw this post and was just curious where all these Lexus blue maximas were. I really hope I didnt pick a color that everyone has since I was going for being different.

here are a couple of pics of my engine bay.

if you want to see more go here

I am doing everything myself and it is taking time (work on it sparingly since I have a wife and 2 little girls)

FWIW I love the seal grey and was going to paint my wifes GXE that color (black is way too hot in the southern heat for her and the kids) but the paint is rather expensive. The guy where I get my paint said it had like 4 or 5 different pearls in it...he told me how many and what the pearls were but I cant remember now because I was doing so many other things at the time but I do remember it was either 4 or 5.

anyway good luck with whatever you decide to do.

more colors look right with tan than you would think. Reds, black, greens, whites, blues...not sure about silvers but are probably fine.

hard interiors to look good with other colors are red and blue interiors...you pretty much have to stick with white or blue on the blue interior and probably just red on the red interiors.

Yeah they are blue but not the same color blue. Maybe 2 of those are intensa blue (looks like 2 are close). Not to mention some blues look the same in pictures but in person they are totally different with the pearls in them. BUT yeah I wouldnt want to paint my car blue if I had a 4th gen unless you did some stuff that set the car apart from others. I think my car will be different enough in the 3rd gen community though.

I say if you are changing colors go with the seal grey.

Do any of those people live in the same state, if not I really don't see what the problem is to have almost the same blue.

I just want something a bit more unique. Even if noone around here has it it's still being over done on fourth gens. Just like Mille Miglia EVO 5s. I have'nt seen that many, if any, silver or grey Max's so that's most likely the direction I'm going in. When you go to car shows and such you don't want people saying hey your car looks just like the other 15 Blue MAXs I've seen. Just my $00.02.

i've never seen any maxima painted with the pearl blue, IS300-ish paint. ever. where are you guys seeing these blue maximas? they ain't around in LA anywhere. i've seen the nice factory blue maxima, 3rd gen only. i've seen a gorgeous I35 with deep dark blue metallic. but not this pearlescent thing. if you have the blue pearl, then you have a very rare scheme-theme going on. and it looks hot. good job.

i once saw a green metallic 3rd gen and i did not like it.

True that and everything, but all I am trying to say is that if you are going to be in the show, you'll need painjob which will be custom mixed.
