I'm no expert, but isn't it bad to have your engine's weight supported (even partially) by your clutch pressure plate?

Yeah, it would be. What are you refering too? When the engine was hoisted the strap was putting pressure on the bottom of the engine-tranny housing. The pressure plate wasn't supporting the weight of the engine.

40 hrs...damn good job!!

Glad everything worked out for you! Is stock compression supposed to be 175? I had 170 on most cylinders but 2 (like 167 or 168)...I just hope the engine holds and that I don't have to go through what you did, although that must have been quite a learning experience!

Stock compression needs to be higher than 145 or so and no less than 5-10 psi difference between cylinders. There are people here that have had measured their compression at or above 200psi, so that's quite a range.

I'm happy with 175 though.

It must have been the angle, then. It seemed as though the strap was running over the pressure plate in one of the photos.

The strap did run against the pressure plate, but the weight of the engine was being supported by the oil pan housing:

The pressure plate was just being pinched against the flywheel, which is ok.
