How hard do you push your max??
Bought my 4th gen manual 2 mos. ago with 105k. I know these cars are built to last, but how hard is too hard, as far as daily driving? I don't really race anyone(for the most part ). When I feel like opening up on it i'll kick it to 4-4.5k a few times everyday, RARELY beyond that and never to the redline. I'm pretty sure this is not going to be detrimental to the life of the engine, but either way I'm curious how everyone else drives theirs on a daily basis, and durability issues.

I beat the )#!@(*!)$#*^%!^ out of my car every day. bounce it off redline several times a day (merging on the highways here SUCK because nobody bothers to pull over or even slow down. you gotta wedge your way into traffic.)
I also track it on weekends.. engine has 195k on it now, and it's the only part I haven't had to replace on the car so far.

I'll downshift (in my auto) to get a great muffler sound, and to boost my RPM and then FLOOR it to hear the intake growl....just for the hell of it. I love those 2 sounds.
But, the harder you drive - the faster parts wear out. (for the most part)
But like they said, get it maintenanced more often.
Like an oil change every 2k miles than 3k

1997SE automatic: My car sees redline at least 5 times a day, lots of hard turning and sometimes hard breaking. My car has 90k miles now, so far I needed to replace the oxygen sensor, crankshaft pos. sensor, and rear right wheel bearing. I figure the car is meant to be pushed, I wouldn't enjoy driving so much if I couldnt push my car.
PS: I read somewhere that if you drive hard from day one, it is better for the car than to drive like a grandma 80% of the time, and then sometimes go all out. Im not sure if this is true, but I did hear this from somewhere. So I guess it is good to keep you driving habbits consistant.

I push her to redline so I can make better use of higher boost at higher engine speed... especially when I get angry at idiots who drive below the speed limit in the fast lane...that's pretty self explanatory right there ..

98SE Auto....I auto shift all the time (still got 9 months of warranty left on the tranny so i don't really care) But that's what cars are made for, to be "Driven" I enjoy driving and even though it's a max...it's only a car so i guess you could say that i beat the living $hit out of it.
108,000 miles and running better than it was at 60,000.

50% throttle acceleration to 3,000rpm every gear then shift...
75% enterin on freeway ramp 3rd gear all the way till 4,500rpm until i hit about 75mph-80mph and shift to 4th...
of course, all tat automagically

Mine see 5K+ everytime I drive, multiple times. Especially if I go cruizin with my buddy who has a 5.0 stang, I need to keep up. I'm prob...
75% beating the shyt out of it
20% driving it alittle over normal
5% trying to save gas

hrm... i dont shift it... nor do i redline it... i dont go over 80 on the highway.... but i dont go under 60 around any corner, unless its a 15mph corner.. and then ill slow down to 50...
if you dont know how hard you drive check your tires... if the edge's look like theyve been filed down your doing something right

sorry guys but I think I am the biggest maxima abuser on here. I don't think I've ever driven normally, not even for a little while. I can't help downshifting and passing the car to the left of me as fast as possible in 2nd gear. It just feels so good
Even tho I bring it to redline alot, I always granny shift except when I'm racing someone. overall, I'm a fast safe driver. I don't cut people off and take turns at speeds that I feel out of control. Every time I'm in my Max I feel 100% in control of what I'm doing and confident.

PS don't drive like me.lol

I've driven my Automagic VE for 10 miles at 6000-6500rpm just to get it out of my system.
I've pegged it at redline at a school car show for 4 minutes against a WRX who wouldnt peg it like me, he just bounced around the board (some girl got mad, aparently my exhaust was alittle to "wet" for her
I'd make it a daily routine to peg 2 gears on my way to school.... up a good sized hill. Also it loved going WOT up a pretty long hill we have here, its about 2 miles long, maybe more?
4300ish rpm power brakes arent that healthy either.
Even though my 93 was crashed beyound repair, the engine was transplanted into another max.
Just had to live up to the name.... Driven.
Havent taken my 92 for a spin yet.

You guys should see how *I* drive.
I have a very strange driving style, full of contradictions...
I spend more than half of my time in the 3-5k range, but always with very light pedal pressure on the gas unless I'm accelerating hard. Even when I am driving with the flow of traffic I'm usually a gear lower than anyone else would be. You actually get better fuel economy with higher revs and less gas, then lower revs and more gas.
I always use the engine to regulate speed, both faster and slower. I love to engine brake, but I always rev-match my downshifts to reduce clutch wear. If I'm in a line of traffic on a country labne that is varying between 30 and 60 mph, I'l stay in 3rd all the time.
I will do 90mph on the freeway, and I love the acceleration of the max. I let the engine breath, but I dont drive it *hard*. I don't bange the gear - I don't tramp on the gas, I don't corner sharply or zig-zag. I don't drive in a way that would stress the car - just excercise it. The drifference between running on a track versus doing an army assault couse...
I have put 60k on this car, and it's running better now than the day I bought it. My only problem in the car has been a failed tranny input bearing which has been noisy since I bought the car.

i manual-shift my 3rd gen to redline without thinking too much about it. i accelerate with full testosterone-driven abandon. i thrash the F@##CK out of the thing. i have a radar detector. that should give you an idea.

i destroy:
tires
transmissions
brakes (along with calipers and pedals cause mine is actually bent from all the foot pressure )
i havent even done a burnout unless spinning on grass is thought of as one.
i drive like a granny unless i have to go somewhere which is about 80% of the time... 0 tickets in 3 years. I rock

I feel like I need to go back out and bring my car up to redline a few more times after reading these posts. I rarely actually floor it but 3-5k rpm isn't unusual. Apparently I brake pretty hard though cause I need new front pads after 20k miles I love these posts everytime they come up cause it really shows how reliable the Max is.

the car is meant to be taken to redline. as long as you realize that you will need to pay more attention to the maintenance, it will not hurt the car. you must remember, too, that you are never going to see the car's true horsepower threshold unless you take it up to near-redline or redline. changing the flywheel to aluminum will enable you to get up to redline very easily, will make the engine turn easier which saves gas, as well as enabling the engine to use the horsepower for to-the-ground power instead of wasting it on turning the heavy stock fly. as much as 30hp can be wasted simply in turning the stock flywheel -an insanely massive waste of power.

well, after a year of driving my car, my 3rd gear syncros went and I am getting those replaced along with new main bearings, a new 3rd gear, new redline MT-90 Fluid of course, and new axles. So, I spent about $750 in parts and will only be spending $100 in labor. I can't wait to get my car back.
