While waiting around after totalling my first max, I asked a cop about mods to the poiice cars. He said they don't mod them or super charge them at all. (This is in TN, I don't know about other states) He said they just blow by everyone because they drive them hard every day. He said they are also maintained very well and serviced regularly. (Must be nice driving crazy everyday and having the city pay to service the car. Ahhhhh...the life.) Moral of the story, drive it like you stole, but use proper maintenance like its your own.

cop cars typically come from the factory as police package vehicles, different from the rest of the crown vics or impalas. this is often the case, too, with taxis. police and taxi packages may differ from the consumer vehicles of the same model. i have been to auctions where police cars are for sale and the speedos often top out at 140 or 160mph, high numbers for full-sized sedans.

I bet if you pitted a 4th gen against a cop car, it would be pretty even.

I'm sure if you took a 2k2 or and pitted it against a cop car, the 2k2 would get away.

police cruisers have getup, but they arent all that special, they dont even use headers, they are maintained well and driven hard (cops dont pay for the gas out of their pocket) but aside from that they are fairly normal, except they have frames made of thicker gauge metal.

I doubt it seriously. I guess it depends on the state. I used to know a guy who drove nothing but retired police cars (NY). Nothing special, speed-wise. They did have all kinds of neat stuff, though. Basically beefed up everything for durability. They didn't exactly make them performance gods.

I now have 2 Identical trannys, granted one is good and one is bad, after my swap I'm probably going to rebuild and set aside the other one as a Backup.

Well a trip out to Vegas just showed me how hard I drive my car. I was coming back across state line into Cali on the 15 up the big hill and had my 2k auto in 3rd gear the whole time going up the hill about 90 to 100. After going over the hill my tranny wouldn't shift into overdrive. I ended up overheating it and had to hose it down with water before it would shift right. Oh well....tranny fluid is still fresh, blood red,

I only push mine when my battery dies or when I run out of gas. The bigger the hill, the harder I push.
