WTF? car start at 300 rpm today for no reason >_<

never had this problem before. when i tried to start my car from work, the car had a 5 seconds delay to start up. i see my tachometer jumps between 50rpm - 300 rpm. started the first time it didn't start fully. second time i gave it 30% throttle and it started. i let go my gas pedal and it drop back to 300rpm and it was seemed like it's gonna die. WTF! i rev a bit up to 3,000rpm and tried to keep it alive. hella people looked at me in the parkin lot like WTF? after i drove outta the parkin lot to the next stop light the car act normal again.

1. i'm still 500mi away from my next oil change
2. throttle was cleaned about 1 month ago. it can't get dirty tat fast.
3. spark plugs...maybe?

any ideas?

sounds like an Idle Air Control valve gone bad. That seems like it is most definatly it especially since you said the car was running normal after it warmed up some.

can't be. i change fuel filter every 3,000 mi along with my oil.

also it can't be my K&N filter, cuz i think i only have it on for 10,000 mi. the instruction said clean it and oil it every 50,000 mi, which i'm far away from it.

I dont think its nesicary to change your fuel filter so often, thats more of a 10k replacement at the least, probably way more than that actually.

I hope he's talking about the temp sensor

happyricefob: Is it still doing it, or was it a one-time-thing?

sorrie guys...me bad reading again =X yea it's the temp thing. my CAI runs like this: throttle > pcv > maf > midpipe > k&n connected by hoses and clamps. anywayZ i think i figure out why:

my last full tank of 91 octane gas was at UC berkely. i don't usually pump other 91 besides at my local safeway, which starts my car fine and good milage. i only had 110mi for this tank and it's almost 1/2 empty. perhaps berkely is a ghetto place and provides ghetto gas, where as the place i live provides quality gas. i live in pleasanton btw, which was named fifth wealthiest area in U.S., so everythin is expensive.

oh well wtf, i'm guessin it's probably bad gas, got ripped. wat u guys think?

i donno about tat... cuz the CAI was installed like 6 months ago. and this is the first time the car start at 300rpm. i doubt it...

any other ideas? (personally i jus think berkely's ghetto quality gas caused the problem)

I've had a few starts similar to that. It usually happens if I start my car in the morning just to move it back and shut it back down immediately. The next time I start it, it's as if it were flooded and it runs like crap for about 30 seconds. Clears right up within a minute.

I don't think it's anything to be concerned about unless it happens regularly.

haha ok i'll try to avoid that station in the future.

does anyone know about Valero gas? I know its probably not as good as Mobil 1 or Chevron or something, but it can't be that bad if I fill up with 91 there, right?
