stealing really irritates me

I was helping a buddy move today, and he offered to give me some high quality cabinets for free. I'm like here we go again, I'm pretty sure that absolutely nothing will be able to fit in the Maxima, front or rear seats, or trunk. Sure enough, I am right, I mean this car cannot even carry 1 lawn chair! Anyway, I happened to notice at this point that all 4 of my valve stem covers are gone.

How low can a person go? Can you imagine taking the time to walk around someone's car and steal the valve stem covers? I happen to have 4 spares that the Tire Rack sent me, so I looked at them and wondered why someone would steal them anyway. I guess because they are made of billet aluminum and look good. But that's low class if you ask me.

are we now so low-class that it's come to this? *lol*

Precisely why I want a station wagon. As I've gotten older, I find that on more and more occaisions, I'm moving large stuff that just don't fit in the Maxima. We usually end up using my GF's VW Golf.

As for the valve stem caps...it's happened to my father twice...there's nothing we can do about it either.

Yeah, I just have the black plastic ones that came with my tires, I prefer just not having to worry about them. As for the station wagon... mmm Audi RS6. best. wagon. EVER!.

Use the crome or aluminum caps with the seal inside. Then just take a pair of pliers and give another 1/2 turn after you finger tighten them. Nobody, including yourself will be able to take them off by hand.

I went through 3 sets until I figured out that trick.

BTW: Always carry a pair of pliers in your car after you do this.

the petty thievery thing just shows how desperate some people are. and stupid. often it is kids looking for a thrill who don't even want the things necessarily. they could have at least stolen the wheels.

Coat them with vaseline?
Seriously though, there are valve caps that take a special key you insert in the center to remove them. I believe I saw them in Griot's catalog. You can even have logos in the center, but didn't see Nissan's. Would be worth checking on.
Odds are there are 2 kids riding their bicycles with nice valve caps. Find the kids and tell their Mom.
Another idea along the lines of njmaxseltd would be blue Loc-Tite on threads only. Make sure you have pliers with you unless you have very strong fingers.

i just use the OEM black plastic ones to avoid drawing attention away from the rims, as the rims are gunmetal. i don't want little silver shiny dots twinkling at the viewer. someone mentioned getting caps with the seals in them and torquing them down with pliers. nobody will get those off.

Having a station wagon in the family definitely has its benenfits. If only Nissan would bring the Cefiro to America (and prhaps lengthen in by 4" or so?).

Also, try the cheap balck plastic valve stem caps. Not very stylish, but they won't get stolen and they do protect the valve stems.

that is not even the worst of it, i went to a party a couple weeks ago but drove my a4 instead of the max. upon leaving i turned on my wipers and spray to clean the windshield and found that some piece of **** yanked my passenger side wiper clean off.......not just the blade but the whole wiper arm. now what the hell does anyone need with a wiper arm???? other than to cause me to have to go to audi dealer and buy another one. to make matters even worse, when i got home i checked and they definetely just yanked it off because it even chipped the edge of my hood. i would give anything to have caught that sob. it would have even been worth it to have them do it just so that i could have caught them doing it. damn malicious thieves.

It's annoying as hell...I just had a wheel center cap stolen a couple weeks ago. Just one..nothing else, not even valve caps. And I can't figure out why because the wheels I have are pretty rare and I have yet to see one other person with them wherever I go.

I got my MAx from Pinnacle Nissan in north Scottsdale, Az and they put the pressure guage caps on every car they sell. I dont think mine will get stolen unless I decide to take my car to the square

to elaborate on what i said before, i think that people who are "disadvantaged," or prone to deviant behavior, often act out on it just to do it. there does not even need to be a clear motive as for why. it is more than likely because they see an opportunity to get something, anything, for free. they find that prospect appealing because they seem to get nothing they want out of life. so they see anything, even a flat tire, utter garbage, as "free" -like they have "won." and no amount of action will stop the behavior.

actually, coincidentally, i just thought of a thread i started on www.max-world.org entitled "anti-theft measures." i think that is what it is called. i will find the thread and post the addy here. it does not address wiper arm stealing or cap stealing, but it covers the car in more general terms.

I think its time to install a fuel cutoff switch... Removing the coil packs everyday would become annoying and rather time consuming.. I rather flip a switch somewhere hidden in the car
