Who has an oil pressure gauge? What's your pressure?

I just installed an electric Sunpro oil pressure gauge. At idle, I'm at around 10psi like my FSM says. And at 3K, I'm in spec at 60-74 psi. But anything higher than 5K under LOAD at WOT, my gauge is pegged at 100psi. I'm sure my pressure would keep rising to 120 or more.

But under no load, like the FSM says to test it, at around 5K, it still rises to 100 psi.

Who actually has a gauge? What does your pressure do at WOT near redline?

I searched a lot and found nothing. Thanks.

Re: Who has an oil pressure gauge? What's your pressure?

Anybody? I know some people up here have an oil pressure gauge on some kind of Maxima. I just want to see if anybody here goes above 100 psi at WOT near redline. Thanks.

I'm too busy looking at other gauges and the tach to see what my oil pressure is doing at redline. It's up around 50-60 at 3000 rpm, though.

Oil pressure is very dependent on oil temperature, though, so it wouldn't surprise me to see over 100 psi at redline if the engine is not fully warmed up.

I'll be sure to look when I go out for lunch today. Like Steve, I've never noticed it at the redline.

Just came up short of the 100psi line, and for sure it wasn't "pegged" at all. My oil temp was also kinda lower (150*F).

Well crap. I may have a problem. Cause my gauge is PEGGED hard at 100 at anything over 5K rpm. I shift at 6600 too. My pressure is in spec according to the FSM at idle and 3K.

I need to check simple things first like oil level. I just changed my oil and I put in the perfect amount like I always do. I dunno.

Thanks for letting me know what your VQ does. I'm sure the VQ and VE should have the same pressure. My FSM says at 3K, the pressure should be between 60-74 psi. If you have a FSM, look in the Engine Lubrication section.

100 psi is way too high. I bet your gauge is wrong. If the oil pressure stays that high at the bearings it will wash the film off and they wont be lubricated correctly. Then you will spin bearings and trash the motor.

Well, the gauge seems correct at idle. But anything faster than that, it seems kinda high. I do have a $40 Sunpro electric oil pressure gauge. It's considered a cheap gauge. But, I know my Sunpro temp gauges are dead on the money. I don't know a way to test the electric oil pressure gauge though.
