Oil pan Question

I'm replacing my oil pan. Both the engine surface and the new pan have sealer all over the joining surfaces. Do I need to remove all this old sealent? Or can I put sealant over it?

REMOVE THE SILICONE!!! make sure there is NOTHING left on the surface. Do whatever you can to make 100% sure there is absolutey NOTHING on the surfaces that will touch. Once its sparkling clean (yes that clean ) throw in some slicone (im sure you know were) and dont fill oil for atleast .5-1hr just to be on the safe side after your done. This isnt something you want to do more then once man, good luck.
