sad truth about Hellas (supertones)

Just want to share my opinion on Hella Supertone twin horns.
I got them on my Max, and also installed them on my bro's Avalon.
They are defenetly louder then stock, but...
Few nights ago we were both driving on the highway and I decided to see how they really perform. So I asked him to stay behind me at about 15ft and blast me with the horns. We were driving at about 65mph, plus I was listening to stock stereo at mid to high volumes, and I got to tell you that I almost did not hear his horns ;(
Aparently they are not that effective on the highway ;(
Just my 2cents.

question, on the avalon, are both horns mounted forward-facing? Just wondering cause on my 5th gen, one horn is mounted in the engine bay and one facing forward. When I put both facing forward it was much better.

Yeah it requires an air tank, I think an air compressor comes with it too, but I dont think they are that big. IF the tank is like 1ft wide and 3ft long obviously 4get the damn thing. I would still love to honk at some1 at a light and scare the living **** out of them They would be looking around for a semi

Do NOT try to use a freight train horn. I saw a guy do it, he placed it behind his radiator.... its really fun to watch a radiator (with hoses) shoot out 20feet from a early 80's Chevy K10

Yup - both mounted infront of the radiator facing forward ( using relay and everything ).
Actually on my Max they are also mounted both infront of the radiator facing forward. I didn't know that stock comes with two horns, so when I was installing my Hellas I didn't replace the second stock horn (engine bay). So now I have three horns

Why don't you guys try boat horns. They run on 12 volts just like a car, and trust me they are very loud.

Here is a pic

You can buy them here and they are not that expensive!

West Marine

Have fun!

i don't think it's illegal to have them but I do know it's illegal to honk without reason. That's why the truckers don't do it. Like in the good ol days when you were sitting in the back of your mom's station wagon staring up at the truck driver giving him the honk honk sign and then giving him the thumbs up after he blasted his horn a couple times ultimately scaring your mom half to death.

If you want the train sound for cheaper, find an 87-89 Buick Park Avenue in a junk yard and pull it's horns. Or any 70's model Caddy, for that matter. They have some of the best sounding horns out there.

Have you ever heard a Ferrari honk? Now that is the gheyest horn ive ever heard

Freaknificent: How loud do you want it man? You can get it from just beefier to strong, to semi-truck or hell make it sound like a freight train

I have $ for a few kits with 2air horns and a small compressor provided in a few links I posted earlier. Check those out, the $ are pretty cheap.
