windshield: how much and where?

Yep new car and already got a nice chip that became an instant crack. With my luck it will be a 14" one morning so I need to take care of that.

Those who have changed windshields on their 5th gens, how much it cost you and where you got it done? I am near the Atlanta area...

Insurance sometimes covers windshields without raising rates or even paying out the deductable because its a saftey issue (visibility I suppose). You should call up your company and find out, I bet they could reccomend a place also.

Just replaced the windshield, deductable was $50, but all in all it was about $420. Go to a place you trust or have seen their work. Campion Auto Glass broke and/or left out a whole bunch of clips, didn't put the side moldings back together correctly, messed up my inspection sticker, bent my remote starter's antenna, and I hope to god they didn't make the two new dents on the roof.

hm then i guess the 290 with installation (170$ for the glass itself if i go to pick it up in florida) is a real good deal.

Well when the insurance company is paying for it the glass place goes crazy and charges MSRP for the windshield. When a customer walks in and pays for it himself they charge the usual price. Same with body shops.

Ever wonder why insurance costs are going up? Its this sort of nonsence that goes on in the auto repair industry that is boosting rates year by year. Its shamefull.

I wanted a factory Nissan OEM not a cheap replacement--heck, if insurance is paying who cares if it's nearly $1000, right? Wrong, I was told my several Nissan dealers that even if you have them do the job, the WILL NOT use factory glass, they will use your typical Safelite etc. I guess what I'm saying is it seems no matter who you pay to do it and no matter how much, it'll be the same person putting in the same glass?

gotcha.. so they basically use generic brands and then you get the surcharge depending on who does the job/sells the glass.
