Valve Cover Gasket Failed

I was putting in new spark plugs today, and when I put the spark plug socket in, I hit oil. This could be the reason I've been getting some bad gas mileage lately. Any ideas on how to get all the oil out?

make sure the valve cover bolts are tight..if not retorque them.

if they still leak get the gasket and new o-rings from the dealer.

Do you have a "Mighty Vac" vacuum pump? That would work well. Or you could use mzmtg's idea (if you've been using Mobil 1 Super Syn you're lucky, it tastes like butterscotch).
Or borrow a friend's shop vac and use a detailing kit attachment hose, but don't let him know you'll be sucking up oil. A good cleaning of it afterwards would be a nice gesture.
Or you could just let it burn off.

Take the car into work and blast the crap out of it with air.

since you've got most of it out, pull the plug out and crank the engine over a few times.... AFTER you've replaced the gasket.

put the old plug back in and fire the engine up. let it run a little while to burn out the oil, then let it cool off and put the new plugs in.

why don't you try to roll up a paper towel and see if that will suck it up. Also to keep it from continuing to leak after torquing it, clean out your pcv valve with some brake cleaner. This may take care of your problem. Otherwise you may have to replace the gasket.

gasket is set and sealed up fine now. Running the car without those three spark plugs and seeing the oil burn off was pretty cool

Could this be why I am "burning" oil at only 65K miles? I don't have any oil leakage under the car just lose a quart every 3000 miles.

doubt it. usually you'll pop plug wires or coils out or something if this is happening on your car.
easiest way to find out is to yank the coils out and take a looksee.

As far as rollover, I have done a Carfax and the mileage checks out. I know that CarFax is not perfect but the best that is available.
