Here's the latest stats

As of today 9/12 4:17pm EST we have 9 confirmed payments. So the next person (without pointing a finger Donald) or anyone else your price for these rings will be $32 to your door. Once the 10th payment is confirmed I will begin the refund process ($10) for each set that was ordered prior to the 10th payment.
I officially closed this deal last Fri but I was willing to work with anyone so you guys could have gotten the lowest price possible, $10 isn't much but it's something. So sorry for the delay and thank you gents.

MIKE

PS: Incase you were wondering why I choose to look into the hub-rings first and the caliper brackets last, it's because the caliper bracket doesn't take much to create. With some basic machine tools you can probably create your own bracket. Besides you have to get the rotor onto the hub first so you can take precise measurements for the brackets. And rest a sure, I will be looking into the brackets. To cut down on the un-sprung weight I would prefer using 6061-T6 billet aluminum and have them cut on a CNC machine but of course that will require more money. Let me see and "we" can weigh the options. Now if any of you know someone who can make the brackets cheap I'm all game, this is a group effort and you will not be stealing my thunder. Just to make that clear.

That was quick

We now have 10 confirmed order. I will place the order with my machinist tomorrow or Fri and the refund process will begin later tonight once my kiddies are asleep.

Who would have thought we'll make the 10, not me if you read my first post

Speaking of refund you guys are aware PayPal will charge you a fee from the $10, so don't expect exactly $10. "It take money to transfer money" does that sound firmiliar?

Blast from the past

FYI
Since we made the 10 orders my machinist schedule and mine has been like oil and water we just couldn't mix. Anyway we finally got it together and I placed the order for the 10 sets. Why couldn't I have placed the order over the phone? He wanted my spare hub and Cobra rotor and a little thing called a deposit He said he'll either start later this week or early next week, so if anyone is still interested speak now, paypal now or forever hold your peace. The price is $33 to your door

paypal account = mikey_rl@yahoo.com

Brackets will be coming, we just have to crawl before we can walk. One thing I would like to varify is. We all know the Z32 calipers come in different sizes (26mm or 30mm) and material (aluminum or iron) but does anyone know for sure that either one of these calipers can mount to any year Z32 without any problems? I've went onto the TT.net site anytime I have a specific question about these calipers and I plan on doing so with this question

OK folks, as of 12pm EST all the rings were mailed out. I'm in Florida so you estimate the traveling time to your home/state. They were mailed regular ground thru the postal service. Sorry for the delay, hopefully it wasn't too long.

After all this time I finally had a chance to put my loaded 26mm Z32 caliper over the Cobra rotor and it fits with no problem, even got a few .000 to spare. I was thinking maybe the 26mm caliper wouldn't have been wide enough for the Cobra thickness, but that isn't the case. During that time I notice something. It's obvious the inner circumference of the Z32 caliper wasn't designed for a 13" rotor, which causes the pad to sit slightly higher above the rotor. These following pics were all taken with the caliper resting on top of the rotor and the pads were still slightly above the rotor. Obviously the caliper can not rest on the rotor so when a bracket is made it will have to raise the caliper above the rotor which will also increase the pad height above the rotor. A minor draw back to this project but it appears it's nothing to be worried about. I had a few ideas in mind which involved shaving a certain part of the caliper, but from speaking to others the census seems to be leaning towards leaving it alone because the slightly higher pad height will not effect the braking performance, in which I believe.

When I picked-up the rings from my machinist we started taking about the brackets. He was asking what material would I prefer and mentioned he would use 6061-T6 aluminum if we went that route. The next step is for me to fab up a bracket out of wood and bring it to him so he can get the dimensions. I think some of you'll have already fab a bracket and I'm all ears if you're willing to share.

Will there be a need to make separate brackets for the 3rd gen and the 4th gen?...I dunno if they would be the same...anyone?

It would be safe to say, no there will not be a need for a different bracket betwen the 3rd and 4th gens. I would go as far as saying, the 3rd, 4th and 5th gens will all use the same brackets. IMO

They would probably look like these. These are NOT I repeat NOT my pics or brackets. I got them from a search, they are from a Z32 owner who did a Cobra install. This is why I've said in the past that anyone can probably make their own brackets with simple machine/hand tools. Just as long as your measurements are correct I dont see why not.

When I get a chance I'll try to mock-up my own brackets so I can take them to my machinist for fabricating. When will that be? To be honest I don't know, between work and family spare time is short.

The install was a success! Don't have any pics tho, unfortunately, cause I didn't have a camera handy. Anyways, first thing I had to do was take a die cutter and grind on the center rings a little bit to get them to fit better. Next, the bracket that I made, 3/8" thick, had to be shimmed by on little washer to center the caliper a little better. I also had to grind out the end channels on the caliper where the rotor runs cause it was scraping. When it was all said and done, the pads hang over the top of the rotor by maybe no more then 3mm. As for stopping power, haven't had um on for more then 3hrs but I can tell you this--NO FADE. Repeated stops work well with these where as with my Z rotors, they would fade after awhile. Thanks again CandiMan for the rings and I'll send ya pics asap!

Brackets are CAD mocked up for the VR-4's but I figured why go 12.5" when you can go 13" . Yeah, once I got to talkin to Nealoc I decided to just go bigger and wala; workin good so far. As for your distance between top and bottom holes on the brackets, did you use 1.25"? If so just remember you will have to grind out the rotor channel from the ends about 1/2" in (dunno how much material we took off, just grinded and tried till it worked). Clearence is def tight in that area but eveything else seems copasetic, only time will tell now.

I don't know about the dist. I have everything written down but I don't remember the dist. I mocked the brackets so there's about 3-4 mm clearance inbetween the rotor and caliper body(channel). So there's 3-4 mm of pad showing over the rotor. Had to do that so there wouldn't be any fitment issues with anyone else wanting the same bracket. But I have to fit the steel brackets to confirm that they fabbed them the same as my template.

I had the rotors/calipers/wheels/brackets all on to check for final clearances with the mockup bracket. The rotors looked comicaly HUGE behind my Cobra 17s. But everthing cleared W/O spacers. Ha!

No need to take pics at the fab shop. I'll arrange for one of the local boys to take some pics when I get them done.

Well I've been in jury duty all week(he was guilty BTW ), I called the fab place wed and he said he started in on them. So I "assume" by now, they should be about done now. We will have to discuss price and if we can get the price and delivery down for repeat brackets. But before more brackets are made, I'd like to install the prototypes 1st.

I'd like to install both brackets on each side and turned around. Just to see how they fit. I designed them so any bracket should fit either way to minimize confusion. But there will be a top and bottom as each end is cut for clearance(hub and caliper have diff clearance shapes).
