$1700...good price for paint job?
I just got a quote from a bodyshop that a friend of mine works at. I'm going to get the whole car repainted the same color, superblack. I don't have enough money for a custom paint job. Anyway, I was quoted $1700 for the whole paint job. Also, they will install the Stillen bodykit that I just got and paint it too. The whole paint job suppose to be $1400, but I want to get the Stillen bodykit painted and installed too, that's why it's $1700 now. Good price or not? I forgot to tell them I want the antenna shaved too. Hopefully, they can throw that in no charge.
Anyway, looks like I'm going to keep this car for a few more years. That's why I'm going this. I better take more care of the car after I get the paint job. No more gas station type of car wash.
I'm dropping the car off Friday. They said it will take about 2 weeks. Now I got to just find a ride to and from school.

I know someone who got theirs done by tilley and it had custom paint/body kit paint and install/shaved antenna/ and fixed rust spots and all that minor stuff that highways and time do for around 2500. All in all I would say that is a good price depending on craftsmanship.

How would a MAX look with a FLAT BLACK paint job? What do you guys think? Everyone is going to disagree with me but go to MAACO, pay $400 for ambassador paint(incuding stripping the old paint) and be happy. The paint won't start ****ing out on you for at least 2-3 years...

$1700 is cheap for a complete car repainted. We get upwards of $3,000. That includes removing every piece of molding, lights, ect so there are no tape lines anywhere. It's labor intensive. If the guy is only going to mask up your moldings and trim, don't bother having it painted, it's only going to peal away from those areas in about 2 years time.

I'm getting mine done (including some dent removal) for less than $1000. I have to take all the trim and lights off myself, but that's all.
in hattiesburg, ms maaco told me they could do mine for under 1500 including the body kit and fixing up dents and dings ..
im not sure if maaco will do a good job, but the price sure fits my budget.
sounds good !

I see you got this idea from SportCompactCar mag
uhhhhhhh...
TRUST ME YOU DONT WANT MAACO. I got my celica painted there... $800 paintjob, not that ****-*** ambassador paintjob. Anyways, the paint (gunmetal gray) as seen in THIS PHOTO ALBUM is starting to chip away. This is umm... 5 months old paint? I have 2 years warranty so for the next 2 years, it's fine.

Looks like I'm going to have to wait until the school semester is finish to get this done. I can't find a reliable ride to and from school. And no one I know have a spare car for me to borrow. I guess it's ok I'm in no rush.
i got into an accident in march 03 and got the cosmetic damages (including hood fender, etc) AND a nice paint job (inside and out) for 2500. It wasnt too shabby at all (but they did a crappy job putting my bumper back together.) The paint job shines like no other (neptune blue). if you want to see the difference, check out my homepage.

The other thing is I'm not so sure that body shop work is comparable to factory work. I mean, you get into an accident, you can't just throw the car away, it wouldn't be financially feasible. But it doesn't mean that when it's repaired it's good as new either. It seems like when a car has been repaired, on a sunny day, and when the car is clean, you can always spot repairs/repaints in the reflection. The color is a perfect match, but the texture is just not right. my .02

Update: I found a ride at the last minute. I dropped the car off at the bodyshop yesterday. The price is a bit over $1700, which will include repainting the whole car(Superblack again), shaving the antenna, filling in holes on each fender that was left by having sidemarkers, painting and installing the Stillen bodykit. The $1700 price is a discount because I got a hookup. The original price for anyone else is definitely double that.
hey get me a deal !

It has been two weeks now and it's still not done. Well I did told them to take their time, as long as it's a good job. I think the paint job is a good one. My friend told me the painting is done, but they have to put everything back together. So I guess it's not a simple, mask and cover where you don't want to paint, and then paint the car. I'm glad they take attention to details. Hopefully, the car should be done by Wednesday of next week. This is the longest I have gone without my car. I'm surprised at how much I miss my car. For the past two weeks, my friend have been driving me to and from school in his '93 Toyota Corolla. To say the least, it's not a Maxima that's for sure. Oh well, as long as I have a ride right?

the bright side
Your saving on mileage ...lol !
maybe this means they are doing you a killer job
the dark side
they are sneaking around racing and cruising around in your car ( can u say PARTY) ..or they could be replacing parts for cheaper ones and using or selling yours .. lol ( thats actually a fear of mine .. lol )
Remember to email or PM me .If you are impressed by their work .. I may just drive down there.. of course i wouldnt be getting a great deal like you ...man that sucks !

I paid $1575 for mine. Make sure that they are going to wetsand and buff the entire car. That is what really made the difference with my car. If you are getting it done at a body shop for $1,700 that sounds like a really good price to me!

We will all know how is the quality once I get the car back. Until then it's all speculation. However, I trust my friend. I highly doubt he would give me a poor quality job.
