***PICS*** I love Blue LEDs!!!
I finally finished putting 5mm blue 4000mcd LEDs in every possible location in my interior....I bought 50 of them on Ebay for $10 with resistors for 12v
Took me a while, but I figured out how to get everything done (tiny soldering of resistors and stuff is hard)
I took a million pics which are all on my homepage but here are links to them all anyway...
Oh, and they all work on the dimmer so I can turn them down or off if need be...
Cockpit
Window Switches
Security Lights
Courtesy Lights
Dome Light
Key Ring Light
Cruise Control Switch
Hazard Button
Defroster Button
Dimmer Switch
Climate Control
Upper Door Handle Accents
Lower Door Handle Accents
Full View of Driver's Door
Front Passenger's Door
Rear Passenger's Door
Rear Driver's Side Door
Odometer Light and Custom Turn Signal Indicators
Cupholder Accent Lights
Glove Box Light
Neons in Trunk
White LCD Clock
Am I sick, or what????

The camera picks up more light than there really is. The light is well contained in whatever location it is, doesn't get thrown all over the car

Correct, but I don't really care. I left regular hyperwhites in the map lights so they still light up the inside very well if I need them.

Drilled 1/4" holes and used LED mounting clips...

I mounted the tubes under the rear deck, just drilled and screwed into the metal....I got the power from the trunk light. It goes on when the trunk is opened so all I did was tap those wires. The neons go on whenever I open the trunk, simple as that

The rear window switches were EXTREMELY tricky to get done since they have surface mount LEDs which are freakin tiny.
The front switches weren't bad and neither was everything else, just used regular 5mm LEDs...

Sorry, no write up. Took me forever to get it done and it would take me even longer to do a write up. Plus, I don't remember exactly what to do for each piece so I'd be going on memory only. Just get in there and figure it out, it's not that hard.
Resistor goes on the positive lead of the LED which then goes to the positive contact on the car. Then the negative lead on the LED gets soldered to the negative/ground contact on the car, done!!

I tried Radio Shack 300mcd blue and they were not bright at all, almost purple in color too.

Oh my
Anyone who's freak about LEDs will love sites like http://www.theledlight.com
For those who love BLUE LEDs, thank Nichia (sp?), the Japanese company that developed it (and subsequently, White LEDs... which are Blue LEDs with a redshift coating, which causes some of the blue light to retransmit in the longer-wavelengths to fill out the "white" spectrum)
Efficient producers of light, although a tad expensive (relating light output to cost of production, compared to Incandescent bulbs), LEDs just rock. I think my Alpine headunit's display contains of all PCB-mounted tiny LEDs, as opposed to an LCD screen with a backlight... IMHO the Alpine's contrast is nice.

Also, the reason you need a resistor is because LEDs typically require around 2-3.6 volts to operate at their peak current, so 12V is too much... (thus you use resistors to introduce a voltage drop)
It might also be possible to solder 4-5 LEDs in series and not need a resistor (or if you do, it'll be a single small one)... never tried it though. http://www.allelectronics.com also has LEDs in bulk if you want to go nuts (they also have a LOT of other ****)

www.superbrightleds.com is a great site too. I got a bunch of things from them as well as ebay...
